G&L '81 L2000-E Need Your Help!

1981 G&L L2000-E, Mahogany body with tobacco finish…..

I was working with my Luthier yesterday touching up a few small nicks in the finish around the outer edge of the bass (the part that would be under your arm while playing seated).
We touched up with tobacco color and drop filled a few areas with Nitro. The idea was with light applications the spots could be wet sanded and then when buffed would blend back into the original finish that fades dark to light from the outer edge to the center of the body.

As we began to wet sand/buff, it became apparent that someone who owned it before me used something with silicon in it to “polish” the bass. The silicon appears to have impregnated the wood.

Long story short we were able to get the “ghost lines” that occurred buffed out. However, the 2 areas that were eraser head sized nicks are now a nickel and dime sized brownish blob looking marks. Looks like someone touched up with fingernail polish because the wood didn’t receive the application? Yikes!!!

Can someone provide some guidance on how to fix this?

Additionally, is there a G&L recipe site for the matching color? The tobacco color he has doesn’t seem to match.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated!
