If you like the tone of an ASAT, then why not get an L2000? Same preamp/setup. Or, consider a 2 PUP 'Ray to make this a more even match.
I used to own an ASAT, and while I loved the tonal variation I hated the overall balance, and playability. Looping a strap through BOTH heel strap buttons helps counter the weight imbalance, but since there's no upper horn the first few frets feel a mile away. Likewise, reaching the upper frets caused your arm and elbow to jut out awkwardly to reach them.
Tele body designs work great for guitar, but IMO, present problems with bass scale.
