For me (an old fart), ounces can matter, and so can circumstances. For example, I have a 1978 Peavey T-40 that weighs in at 10 lbs, 1 ounce. I love playing it in Sunday morning worship, but there's no way I'd consider playing it for more than those 4-5 songs. My shoulder is done at that point. One of my G&Ls goes to the four hour gigs.

Interesting. You can, of course, get the US-made pickup from the G&L store. Very nice price at $80 given that it sounds a *lot* like the Lindy Fralin pickup I replaced mine with—and the Fralin will set you back $150.
Well, I sold my 2014 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass today and ordered an SB-1 off of Reverb a little while later. It's tobacco sunburst with an alder body, a brown tort pickguard, and a Caribbean Rosewood fretboard. It was a difficult decision to make, since I was also looking really hard at a USA LB-100. But I already have a 2005 Fender American Standard Precision Bass and an EBMM Cutlass Bass, so I was also looking for something a little bit different than the two basses I already have. I watched a YouTube video comparing the USA LB-100 to the SB-1, and while it was encouraging, it still didn't totally sway me either way as to which bass to buy. I've never played or owned a G&L bass before so this'll be interesting. I'll know more next week when it arrives at my house. Hopefully I made the right decision.

I have bought several pieces of gear after making an economic judgement that the emotional cost of restraining myself exceeded the time/energy cost of flipping it if I didn't love it.

that bass was down to 1750 a month or 2 ago. I wouldnt buy it for that much. My CAR Metalic with matching headstock and empress was $1500 with free shipping and no taxes charged. I also bought it direct from the seller, Drum City guitar land.
I think bass central sucks. They drop the price and raise the shipping. Their prices have always been higher than anywhere else who sells G&L
Buy direct, ask if they charge sales tax to your state and get free shipping. PLENTY of sellers offer free shipping and dont charge tax when you buy direct
