I heard that G&L now uses GHS nickel rounds .045-.105 as factory strings, has anyone else heard this?
The last bass I received from the factory had strings without colored ball ends (D'Addario's) like my other G&L bass had new.
I'm mostly curious if the stings are now .085 and .105 instead of .080 and .100 for the A and E strings.
I guess I need to dig out the micrometer I have somewhere and gauge them to see.

I'd love another G&L JB, especially with MFD pickups and stainless frets, but in a different color and with an Ash body that weighs 8.5lbs instead of the 9.5lbs weight of that bass.
So many G&L's are on the heavy side, many people don't care and that's great, but for me 9lbs is my cut off weight limit if I add another bass.

So those pickups are dual-coil MFD's? If so, I'm not understanding why they'd bother when the flagship L/M-series basses already occupy that slot . Slightly different flavor?
Or if they're single-coils, why not just re-issue the gen1 SB singles? Everyone knows those positively kick ass. And those who don't happen to already know would surely be impressed. Not to mention the gen1's also look cooler.

No need to re-introduce those single coils from SB-2 Gen 1. They're available for sale on the G&L Webstore, so if you want a couple, grab them. My guess is the new design MFD JB pickups are usable as drop-ins for a Jazz Bass. Those original single coil MFDs are slightly larger than a Jazz Bass pickup and mount differently.
Yeah I'd have to do a sound comparo to prove to myself that the ones in the store are the same exact wind as the originals, even though I've read here (somewhere) that they are. I wish I still had an gen2 SB-2 to compare. I think I'll drag out my Lynx, solo the bridge pickup and see if it sounds as weak as I recall my SB-2 ones sounded solo'd. I don't expect it to, that Lynx is a monster bass. Will comment later... Cheers.
I got my info from Memo Romero at G&L, who told me there is no difference in those pickups and the ones from the Gen 1 SB-2. Cases, windings, magnets...all the same. On the current SB-2s, they're placed so close to the bridge that they sound thin and weak, but that's all due to placement on the bass. There is much less energy in a picked string the closer to the bridge you go. Less string energy equates to a thinner, weaker sound.
If that's the case then I'm tempted to do a parts build around a pair.
That said, I've gotten "info" from Memo before too. Let's just say I'd be taking a "trust but verify, first" approach on this one.

I was also given that info from Ken Baker, owner of the former forum "Basses by Leo." Ken was a friend of Paul Gagon's and was pretty plugged in to G&L's changes. However, "trust but verify" is always a good approach.If that's the case then I'm tempted to do a parts build around a pair.

Alder , Stainless frets and 8.5 lbs
I'd love another G&L JB, especially with MFD pickups and stainless frets, but in a different color and with an Ash body that weighs 8.5lbs instead of the 9.5lbs weight of that bass.

I know it did not sell as well as the JB, but they need to make a JB2 with the MFD J Pickups.
Now that I have old and new SB2s side by side, I think the bridge singles seem pretty similar. They sound different but output seems comparable.
In the interest of that, I looked on G&L's webstore to see if they had those jazz-configured MFDs for sale. Nope. That's OK...I no longer have a JB-2, having sold mine last year. But there are some used ones available at reasonable prices on the usual sites.
