OK, so promptness was never my strong point...

Here's my G&L. It's an SB-2. Can't remember when I bought it but sometime between '86 and '88. Had it refretted in the '90's. Yes, those are very early Lane Poor pups. (I hated the noise and bark of the stock pups) Lane had a ricky neck prototype hanging around the shop and he made a cast for it the size of the bridge pup cutout. I had to wait a year or so until he designed his "P" pups to get the other 1/2 of the set. The bridge pup is hand signed in 22k gold flake paint under the top epoxy as it is one of the first prototypes. (The P's have the cast metal letters he used on the first retail series.)

Hey Chef,

You're right, it's a pup selector switch. I had lane put it in when we had the soapbar with the G&L P pups so I could get 2 totally different sounds. (Really just to shut off the G&L P which sounded horrible to me)

When we put in the P set of Poor's, I just left it there to plug up the holes but later changed it back to a selector and went with a vol and tone instead of 2 vols. I may go to 2 vols and a small tone in place of the switch. I can't help myself, I love to play tech.

you could go with a vol/vol stack, a second pot for tone, and leave the switch there just to confuse guys like me

Interesting question, wondered about that myself so I A/B'd them. Don't know if it's a fair comparison between a 17 year old bass with a handmade fretboard and a new bass with a PLEKed board. FWIW the L-2000 has broken-in DR Sunbeams and the L-2500 has the factory D'Addario XLs which are still fairly fresh.

The difference in tone really comes out in series mode. The L-2000 with rosewood is darker, with a little more bass and a slightly metallic attack. It has jumbo frets, which I find are more forgiving of poor technique but can be clanky.

The L-2500 with maple is brighter, with a woodier, more musical attack. The frets are smaller, which I prefer. The PLEK job is outstanding, the best fretwork I have seen on a bass and one of the reasons I bought it. Mind you I've never played anything more expensive than around $1200.

Time for me to join the club. I recently picked up two Trib L-2500's. One is blueburst and rosewood, the other is tobacco burst and rosewood. I'll edit this post and add pics later on.

Woinderful basses. I can see why these have a huge fan base!

Nice looking pair. Ironically, my US L2k is sunburst/maple and my Trib L2500 is cherryburst/rosewood.

Love that pickguard, I always thought the L-2000 would look good with one.
The only G&L I have right now is an SB-2 but I have been thinking of getting another L-2000.
A pickguard like that would be a nice customization.
Reminds me of the Fender "Cowpoke".

Hi All,

I finally get to join the club, as I have not been able to take any bass pix for some time. So, here they are.

On the left, in black, is a homebrewed ASAT style bass. I used G&L pups, tuners, & bridge. All nitro finish. V/V knobs, just like stock. Ebony fretboard.

In the middle is an ASAT bass in honey, with GOT neck & fretboard. I got it from the G&L jam 2008. Because it was "used", I got it at b-stock pricing.

On the right is a L2K with rosewood fretboard. It was a rep model, so I got it at "used" pricing.

In the case of both factory basses, they were in perfect shape, but "used", so I got some good pricing.

Could I please have a number?
