Just bought it last week off of TB:classifieds; First bass (G&L Trib 2500; thanks revlimitbounce!) and super stoked to start my lessons on Tuesday. My amp is on backorder so I have no idea what it sounds like yet.

Glad it's gonna work out for you. If you don't have an amp right now, see if you can rig up something with headphones through your computer. Or, if you can get a hold of stethoscope, tape the listening end to the bass' bridge or near the bridge and use the earspieces as per normal doctor use. It wont be hi-fi, but it'll work off the natural resonance of the instrument. Works with guitars, too.

There's another trick for Stratocasters with whammys (vibrato) that you can try if you can live without the whammybar.
1. Remove spring cover
2. Tighten down the springs until the bridge is flush with the body
3. Measure gap (eyeball it!)
4. Make a solid piece of hardwood that fits in the gap, oak is good!
5. Tighten the springs a tad more so the wood slides in there nicely
6. Back off on the springs until the wood is wedged in there good n' tight, but not a mm more than that!
7. Replace the back cover
Result; the springs vibrate like crazy, causing them to boost the natural sound of the guitar to practice levels. That with the added sustain and body of the sound, plus better tuning makes this mod more than worth it!
This was about as OT as it gets on TB....
my 2.5k trib should be here on thursday if the man in the brown van comes through. I hope it gets here before 3 so I can mess with it before I go to class.

You may never need another Bass - these are great basses.
If you have a computer with Speakers - plug into the line in jack or MIC input - usually has a red ring. Adjust the volume control through Windows. And you are off and practicing - you can plug headphone into the Speaker out if you want to play in silence. You can also load Audacity (free down load) and record yourself. I get a great tone through my laptop this way. PM me of you have questions or need help!
My new Tribby L-2000 and Peavey rig. Played its 1st gig last night. Nothing but compliments on the quality of tone. Awesome!
Hello everyone . I am new to G&L. I have a 1989 SB-2 and just purchased a 2006 SB-2. The new one has a strange truss rod. The rod is off-set and leans way back towards the back of the headstock. I can not get the adjusting wrench in the rod without gouging the wood. Is this normal in these basses ? Thanks. Zoom.
I don't think anything that would cause you to gouge the wood in order to adjust it would be considered "normal." Others might have more info than me but I think it sounds like you got a bum neck.
