G&L Headstock

Does the back of all G&L headstock's have the small dot in the middle? This is the back of an L-1500. Does this look right?

It's just the hole for a routing pin that is filled with a walnut dowel, even today but it's concealed under the serial number plate. Doesn't exist on Tribbies. Fullerton factory only. There is another pin hole at the heel where the neck pocket is, but that one is left unfilled, with no dowel.
There are two similar dots at the back of US G&L bodies that can be seen only under a clear or transparent finish.

I cannot see it on your picture. KoraIf you cannot see it as well, it means the neck is not MIA, it's a Tribute replacement (though it should be stamped Made in Indonesia, Korea, or whatever). There is no Tribute L-1500, these are only US made.

I'm not sure that's a legit G&L. Note the perfectly rounded profile at the end of the headstock in Glazenn's pic and compare to yours. Also note how the tuners are mounted. Something's up. Mine doesn't have a serial number on the headstock, but on the neck plate instead.

Maybe, but G&L has gone through quite a number of headstock iterations.

Hmmm OK that pic looks better. Maybe camera distortion in the back shot. Those are their tuners and string tree, and the label looks good to me. I can't see the new 'dot' pic you found but if you say it's there, it's almost certainly legit. Hard to imagine someone spending that much time/effort faking an L-1500.

This is very strange...
The first L-1500s from 1996-1999 were with a B02xxxx serial number that was stamped on the neck plate. There was no serial number plate at the back of the headstock back then. On modern L-1500 this serial plate is fitted with 2 screws, hence two holes, near the E-string tuner, that you don't seem to have.
Do you have a 3-bolt neck plate or something else: 4 bolts, 6 bolts, no neck plate ?

If I look well at the picture, yes, the serial number has been erased (near the G-string tuner, where it should be).
OP, you are right, the number has gone, but there was no number plate there, just a stamped number on the wood just like on the picture in post #3.
At last you know the neck is legit MIA, but who knows why someone removed the number?
