G&L Ideas

1-2 months is typical for G&L, unless the specs get particularly whacky.
Funny story. The Cherryburst L2K that just came in was ordered like 6 months ago. I'm still not sure what happened there. I ordered it so long ago that when it arrived I had to call them to confirm that I did actually order it. LOL. For a couple days, I was REALLY scared that my worst nightmare had finally come true - I was afraid I'd lost track of the customer for a special order. I was digging through my email history looking for ANYBODY that might have expressed an interest in a bass like that. Turns out it was just one of my bouts of G&L guilt ("I'm a dealer, I should probably order something").
I'm actually happy to be planning to call my G&L rep and give him a decent order. He's a really nice guy, always coming by the store on his way to the next G&L dealer in his territory.

I've ordered before and it's 9-12 weeks and more likely closer to the 9. It depends on what the current run is and your order.
They do them once in a while but from what I hear, they don't have a steady supply of good ebony to offer them all the time. You can ask when ordering and if they have any (that's not being saved for some other project run) then it might be possible.
Freddels, you seem pretty knowledgeable on these matters, maybe you can clear up something else Ive been wondering about lately? What about mahogany bodies? I have seen many of the vintage 80's ones with hog bodies but also some more contemporary basses with hog bodies. Is this something they do from time to time now or can you order them that way all the time? What gives?
Man, I love green instruments... but they are a tough sell. I think lots of folks like the idea of a green instrument, but they can't quite pull the trigger on one. Still, let's price 'er on out!

I don't think so. You could request a special limited run but not sure how many you have to order. They had done a limited run of the L1000's a while back and they actually borrowed an old one and copied all the dimensions off it and made them up. The limited run were all back loaders though.
With G&L it's all about asking and as a dealer, if you can think of something you want to do, have Greg run it by them and do a RocketMusic limited edition.
I only know what I know b/c of hanging around the G&L brain trust guys and a little knowledge has rubbed off on me.

I guess they goofed on their site listing Cherry Burst as a standard finish then.
Cherry Burst is a premier finish on the 2010 price list. They might have made it a standard color for 2011, but I don't have a 2011 price list yet. I'll check with my rep to get an updated PL.

These are actually my favorite production made basses. I got some killer tone out of one of the early L2000 models back in the early 80's (on some demo's cut at 12 Oaks Studio in Smyrna, GA). I think the only thing left of those sessions is an old cassette copy!

Meh, I can't stand their website... it and the price list disagree WAY too often, and you have no idea how incredibly frustrating that is. I've always chalked it up to the site being out of date (it certainly LOOKS dated), but maybe it's just inaccurate...
The folks at G&L are not good at marketing, email, or designing websites. But they do make a nice bass.
