G&L JB vs JB-2

one has an added mfd jazz pup in the bridge,and u no longer have a tone control,juist control ovewr the pickups
Sorry, I'm not following you. They both have 2 pickups. Are you saying that the pickups are different models?

G&L JB rocks! It is a gr8 instrument. I played one for 3 hours @ Bass Specialties and I am considering buying it. This JB is the best Jazz bass put out in the last 38 years by any maker of the bass, Fender Sadowsky etc...
Yes, and as a result the JB has a four bolt neck joint unlike the JB-2's six bolt attachment. On another forum, I read posts from a G&L dealer stating that the neck difference affects the tone, and gives the JB a more vintage vibe. I don't know, but, regardless, I'm quite fond of my new JB

I've had both.
My Jb-2 was Ash/Rosewood and was a great bass. It was built exceptionally well, but I didn't really dig the body shape or the pickups in them.
My Jb is Alder/Rosewood and I love it. It's my main bass.

Yes, they are, Chef. To each their own, between these 2 models. I cut my teeth on P-basses, and have never really been a fan of the offset body, and I know that I use that 21st fret for high E often enough, so the JB2 is my mainstay. I would have no qualms about getting a JB, if I had a gig that justified it (i.e. required the look of it and paid well enough).

No one stocks them here, so I can't a/b, but, I know I don't like the JB2's tone and I replaced pups on the one I had for a while.
I wouldn't want to coin up for a JB, and then have to replace pups.

They (JB / JB-2) aren't going to sound exactly the same. They have different body mass, a different neck, and the JB uses 4 bolt attachment.
It won't make a huge difference in sound, but there will be some.
