G&L L-2000 series/parallel

Hi guys, I just finished my squier project a few days ago with the valious help of line6man. Now I got an awesome deal on a G&L L-2000 tribute with carved top for 550 brand new; I owned a L-2500 before, so I know there is a series/parallel switch for neck and bridge pickups, but...whar about a series/parallel switch for the coils of each pickup? Do any of You guys did something like that? Would be there any tonal improvement? I think this can be done using two push pull pots to avoid drilling extra holes, right? What do You think guys?
 
I've got my middle switch modified to series/inner coils/parallel, and just outer coils are available through puting it in parallel, and using a push/pull as a "kill" switch for the inner coils. It's not independent for each pickup this way, but I don't really need it to be, either....going neck/neck or bridge/bridger will be hum-doubling rather than humbucking.

Ok, let's see .. I was completely forgotting about the hum thing in what I was thinking ... thanks millahh for bringing it to me again.

Sure, you could do series/parallel switches per-pickup if you want.
You could do series/single coil, parallel/single coil or north coil/south coil switches instead, as well.

Now line6man i'm not familiar with this north coil/single and parallel thing ... my idea was to just put the coils of the pickups availabe to be in series or parallel to reduce the actual output and see if there is a tonal improvement, since the G&L MDF are high output pickups, or at least that's what I know... My plan was to have for example the coils of the neck pickup in series while the entire pickup is in parallel with the bridge pickup, which would be even in series or parallel mode itself .... Is this gonna give me any good result or it is just me reinventing the circle?
 
Methinks you're overcomplicating things a bit. On most instruments, you can just dime the volume and tone and it will sound good/great. However, the MFDs are so hot/aggressive that you really can't do that and expect great results. With the G&Ls, you actually need to use the volume control, rather than just leaving it at maxed out. I personally have it around 60-75% most of the time, and like that. Same for the tone control. If you're simply looking to tme the beast, start here.

If you want to make it even more of a swiss army knife than it already is, then start playing with coil configurations. DavePlaysBass has a great set of diagrams done up for this.

Basically what you want are series/parallel switches per-pickup, plus a master series/parallel switch.
That setup is not uncommon. It will give you a lot of different options, but I don't know how many of them are going to be useful to you.

That's the one!

I wired mine as in #7, with the leads for the inner coil routed through a push/pull pot. That way, in parallel and with the pot "pulled", my inner coils are killed, leaving only the outer coils going to volume. In series and inner coil modes, the pot just becomes a master kill switch.

I'll check it out, I think thats the same configuration as mmbongo, and I liked it a lot ... since the singles mode sounds a lil like a jazz bass ...
 
mmbongo that clips are killers ... but I wonder what did You sacrified of the original preamp setup for getting that?

Nothing was sacrificed. The bass still has the original preamp, and you can still get the series and parallel settings of the stock setup. The only difference is that I can switch the pickups independently, and each pickup now has a single coil option to go along with series or parallel. It should be this way from the factory.
