G&L L-2500 questions...

Hi all,

I stopped into a local guitar shop today and they have an L-2500 (used) for sale with original case.

I see a few things that give me pause, perhaps you can shed some light as I am very new to G&L and am considering this still...

1) L2500 pics I see here show the strings through the body to the back of the case... the one in the shop does not have this feature.

2) L2500 pics I see here show the neck bolts with no body plate. The one in the shop has a black plastic body plate.

3) if legit, is $1100 a good price (a few dings on the body, one chip (small), quite dusty but not beat up badly).

4) there is no "Tribute" on the headstock so I'm pretty sure it is US made

Thoughts? Thanks,

Sparky

The earliest L2500s had no string-through-the-body feature and also had a neck plate vs. countersunk bolts. I think that price is pretty high for an older model L2500- You can probably find a new one for that price if you look around (I got one new for that much a couple years ago, and saw them even cheaper on occasion after buying mine). You should be able to find a decent used one in the $800 range or less...

If you're into a tone moster of an L2500 have a look at Swpyne's for sale inthe GFS. I did the install of the Audere 3 band pre on that one and it turned out really well. That bass just sings. It is alas too big for me to handle as I rehab my left arm though - if it wasn't for that, it would have stayed here in the fold.

That bass would be very easy to return to stock if one was nutty enough to want to do that - all the original parts and my diagrams are there.

It really would be nutty though. MFD humbuckers and the Audere 3ZB are seemingly made for one another...

On GL Basses is it always visible (eg. on the headstock ) where the basses are made, as looking on line people are not very specific. also as a guide what is the price difference please.
thank's for the reply
