G&L Price Increase - Effective July 1st

G&L just released their new price list which will go into effect on July 1. It was described to me as a 10% increase across the board.

I'll update the G&L Pricing thread before I leave today with the exact information, but I wanted to get the word out ASAP because this means that we've got less than 3 weeks left to get in any custom orders at the today's prices.

I should also remind everyone about the special on satin neck tints that I'm running this month. That special expires June 30, just like the current prices do.

Well, this price increase seems to be working differently than previous ones. G&L has operated on a simple formula for years. The Internet Price = 75% of MSRP, and that was true of every model and every option.

Now the Internet Price is more like 70% of MSRP, but that's only approximate. The exact math depends on the model and/or option because they've gone away from nice, round numbers for some reason.

The good news for my customers is that the reduced percentage will take some of the sting out of the MSRP increases... but even still, those MSRP increases are substantial. Some are almost 30%. Yikes. I've updated most of the pricing in the G&L Pricing thread, so you guys can see for yourselves. Just please keep in mind that the 2014 numbers would be multiplied by 0.75, and the latest numbers get multiplied by 0.7. So the increases are not as large as they look at first glance.

I'm not sure what to say about this just yet. I expect G&L will be getting quite a bit of pushback from their dealers over the next few days. I know I've already filed my own list of complaints. Maybe that will result in some revisions... at least that's my hope. As it stands - quoting just became much more complicated, and G&L basses just became more than a little bit more expensive.

Oh. My. Goodness. I either just made a fantastic move... OR I'm putting my store at incredible risk while committing career suicide. :help::p

So the LB-100 is my favorite G&L model. It's just a great, great bass all around. Take that with a grain of salt, I am a died-in-the-wool P-bass guy these days.

The LB-100 is also the bass that is seeing the biggest price increase come July 1st. Most of the models are seeing their street price go up by about 10-12%, but the LB-100 is going up more like 20%.

So G&L publishes an available list today, and there are 22 LB-100's on the list. I thought to myself "wouldn't it be a smart move to grab all of those at today's price?" Then I pretty quickly thought to myself, "Do you REALLY not like owning a music store?!?" LOL

So guess what I just did? I'll start a new thread with more details in just a second...

EDIT: Please disregard these comments below, I was incorrect. There is only one charge even if you change both the neck radius and the neck profile.

I uncovered a new piece of the puzzle today while quoting a bass using the new price list. On neck changes, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. So if you happen to want to deviate from the "standard" for a given model on both the profile and the radius, then you'll now get charged twice ($72 MSRP for each change). It used to be just a single $50 MSRP charge if you changed neck numbers (which might have changed either one or both of the neck parameters).

Ahhhhh. The newly available 9.5" radius didn't register with me as something new, but now this makes more sense. I was really wondering why they abandoned the neck numbers that everyone has been so familiar with all these years. I guess they would have had to add a bunch of new neck numbers with the 9.5" radius, and someone figured this new approach made more sense. I can see that...

Weird decision, such a nice J bass and lots of other companies continue to make passive J's so it would appear there is still a market for them. Well Brad, you and I may just be the lucky owners (thanks to Greg) of the only empress JB-2's that were ever made...and good ones they are! Maybe the JB is the real seller since it is a "traditional" J bass. I much prefer the L body of the JB-2.
