G&L SB-2

Saturday, I tried out a Tribute SB-2 at a local shop.

I've been a bit interested in these in trying to find a fuller tone than my jazz basses while keeping with a skinny neck.

Well, I was rather blown away by it running through a GK 1001 and 410. It had a very full punch to it and I'd daresay that the playability/feel was better than my MIA jazz deluxe. This from the import Tribute.

I still have no idea how much of that hard punch was from the amp or the bass.

For those that own an SB-2, how does it perform in a thick rock band mix?

check out the LA band far flung, they have 2 guitars, keys, drums, and singer for the sb2 to compete with and the guy really cuts through live and on the records

It is fantastic in a thick, heavy rock mix. In fact, IMO it's the best pure rock bass I've owned. Nothing compares to the mighty MFD split-coil.

My SB-2 cuts like a chain saw. I have to turn my amp down if I previously had an active bass plugged in.

you'll cut through and then some. mine cuts through so much i have to use flats, and it still cuts through more than any other bass i've ever played. I've played it through at least a dozen different amps ranging from ampeg to trace elliot to fender right down to behringer, and it still sounds awesome.

i can second this statement. my sb-2 has more output than my stingray had.... and much better tone

That bass and rig is a great combo imo. You were getting that hard punch from both at the same time

It seems what I was hearing is very consistent with everyone's tone reports here. The neck profile really works for me too.

As soon as I can sell one of my fretted basses, I'll nab that one.

The G&L Tributes are pretty great. I've got the L2000 and it's a wonderful instrument, especially for the price. It's quite a powerful little bass, and it's remarkably light and pretty comfortable to play.

Can definitely see myself buying SB2 and JB2 Tributes to keep the L2000 company in the future.

i think the guy from harvey milk plays a SB2. it sounds RAW!

I love my sb-2 trib it is a no nonsense rock bass.
