G&L SB1 (version 2)

OK, so there is one for sale near me. The guy wants $1500-kind of dinged-up not bad. Have not played it yet.

Can someone help with a legit offer-I mean if I play it and like it?

Thanks everyone, I know it is very subjective so let's just assume for the sake of argument that it is in "good" condition. BTW, case not original, if that matters.

That seems REALLY high. You could find a nice one for about $800.00 (or less!). That being said, it's hard to go wrong with a G&L. I have an '89 L1000 that is my all time favorite.

He's on crack. That's WAY too high. I think they're great basses, but that's simply too much. Pretty sure they are less than or close to that new. Realistic used price would be more like $600-$800.

You can get a new one for $1200; inform your seller of that. Granted, G&L does not even advertise the model on their website, but they are making it, again, and I know of a few dealers who have them in stock.

You should be able to do a lot better then that price used. Base price for a brand new SB-1 was $1049 in 2011 when I ordered mine. I added the natural body binding and a #8 neck and still came in < 1200.

Yeah, way too high.
That said, I believe they are the best P bass Leo Fender or anyone else has ever made.
Never owned one but would love to!

Sorry to bump this up, but I've gotten a totally conflicting opinion from a respected friend and more experienced player then myself. He has no reason to not be truthful, and he knows his stuff. He's actually owns an '81 (where the serial number is on the bridge) and says they not only KA, but are worth $2000.

So......I'm not saying who is right here, but I am playing the bass today and if it is really superb, will buy in the $800-900 range.

Something tells me that bass is staying in the shop! Thanks again guys for the replies, I will take everyones opinion into consideration.

No, it does not matter what SB-1 it is. Your friend has the first SB-1 which is like a Jazz Bass, but with only the neck pickup. I think the SB-1 you're thinking of buying is the one that looks like a normal Fender P-Bass. Either way, you should not pay more than $800 for one.

Search closed sales here, and closed sales at ebay.

I've been watching G&L sales a looooong time; I bought my first one in 1980.
A dead mint 2nd Gen SB2, with the correct case, papers and tools is worth $800-ish.
They trade lower than that all the time.
