I can't believe how slow I am some times. For a couple years, I've been wondering why it is called the Wunkay. What is wonkey about it? Then suddenly it hit me ...

I can relate.

For years I wondered why golfers had the word 'titleist' printed on their caps. TIT-leist, with emphasis on first syllable, and 'leist' as in 'heist' - i.e. bank heist.

Then one day it hit me: Title-IST.

Oh, yeah. LOL

I've had this itch too. I owned a tribute Fallout. And I liked it, but the end of the day, I've kinda gotten over short scales. After owning a bunch over the years. nothing like ripping into a power slide on a 34" P bass of doom to start yer engine up.

Yep, just decided to keep it 34-35 real.

I'd also love a short scale 1k. The Fallout is kinda cool, but 1. I want the actual 1k electronics, 2. 19 frets won't work for me, and 3. I want the upper strap button at the 11th or 12th fret.

Wunkay is "One K," i.e. 1000 ... it's a popular slang term for the G&L L-1000.

Funny, one of the things I love most about my L1K is that control plate! So shiny!

For me, it was the main selling point for the reissues. I had a beautiful transparent blue LK1 that I purchased new 40 years ago. I let that bass go and always regretted it. When the CLF reissues came out I bought one right away in Pharaoh Gold just like lildrgn. I think we got ours right around the same time a couple of years ago. I also have an LK2 but it's not a CLF reissue. It has the rear mounted controls and looks dull in comparison to my LK1.

Does it count as a rip off when the creator simply modifies and reuses something he happens to like on another of his products? You do realize that MusicMan instruments were the product of Leo Fender as were all the G&L instruments up until his death. In fact, in terms of years in, Leo had more time in designing and manufacturing G&L than he ever did with MusicMan. He had 15 years of manufacturing instruments at Fender (1950-1965), roughly five years at MusicMan (1975-1980) and until the day he died at G&L (1980-1991).

I don’t think the plate is hideous, but definitely prefer the plateless look. I also prefer the dotless look, probably more than I care about the plate. What I find hideous is unmatched headstocks.

The plate sorta implies a siblingship to the Precision, which I like.

A dotless, plateless, matchy-paint CLF head L1000/30 with the same fretcount and just moving the bridge inboard instead of shrinking the body would be difficult to resist.
