The David Gage residency was for the month of May, before the ISB convention.

I'm in Toulouse, running my own shop, repairing, restoring and selling basses. I'm doing some really interesting restorations on French axes. One down from Paris right now- a Mirecourt. I'm developing some good rib restoration techniques, and managing to preserve original ribs that I suspect would be replaced by most repair people. I'm finishing up one of my own restorations too, of a German factory bass from the turn of the century. I will be selling that, or course.

Things are going very well. My trip to David's was excellent, and I learned a bunch, and had a great time. In many ways, it was as though I'd never left.

I'm also building two basses right now. One is a modernized Amati copy, which I'm building in cooperation with Robert Brewer Young, and Leo Goujarda Spiga. I have a design of my own that I'm also very excited about, greatly inspired by French forms, but also Italian and German. This will be a less traditional approach, but a lot of fun.

Things couldn't be going much better, really. My daughter is fourteen months and healthy and happy.
