Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

Is it possible to run two different cabs using different cables?
I'm using a GK RB700-II + a Schroeder 210 PL and a GK NEO115-III.
I'd like to use the speakon cable with the Neo (in order to control the tweeter fron the front panel) and a standard cable with the Schroeder :)

Yup, that's how it works. Just be mindful of your woofer high cut button. Using it will cut the highs from the Shroeder - which would be what I'd recommend, and just control treeter frequencies from the GK.

Well my Schroeder's horn is damaged and it doesn't work - and that's fine for me, because the best configuration it's both cabs running, with both horns off, too. Solid but clear mid-bass range, without being thin or "ice-picky".

Thanks for the advice ;)

So I don't think I'm in the club, but I just wanted to share my love of GK with y'all.
- I have an MB500 as my main head
- The MB210-II combo is my main go-to small gig amp
- And I just bought an MB112-II combo for super portability, as well as to fill out the "Small-Medium-Large" setup.

I couldn't imagine bass life without GK. No matter how many other amps I play, GK is the sound that I just love.

RB 1001
Can I indetify a Series 2 if it has the red lettering at the left fron that says "Bi-amp bass ammplifier"
Also, do all the Series 2 have Speakon jacks?
TIA

Mark/series-I style in the middle, mark/series-II style on the bottom. However, the mark-II components were all drop in compatible with the Mark-I parts (with kind of the exception of the power transformer), so it isn't rare for mark-Is that saw bench time to have replacement mark-II parts on the inside. As far as the preamp goes, the giveaway is a blue vs. green power light (blue is mk.ii, green mk.i). Both versions have the same SpeakOn outs.

How does your MB112-II stack up against the bigger boys for sound (and maybe volume)?

I have an MB212-ii combo as well, and its more than capable power and volume wise for any gig i've thrown at it. Its capable of thunderous volume if needed, and unless your playing a huge/outdoor stages, more than adequate for many gigs. The only issue i've come across with combos is that the low profile makes it harder to hear sometimes. Like on a smaller stage, its pointed at the back of your legs. You just need to get it up off the ground a bit....

Speaking of 1001RB-is with mark-ii components, here's a shot of mine after a 4 hour rehearsal in Philadelphia last night (old band gearing up for a show after nearly a year of not playing together).

We were in a very small rented rehearsal space in Fishtown and I wanted to save my settings for our next cram session right before our show. Thanks to our drummer, we were louder than any rehearsal ever has a right to be. Thank God for hearing protection.

And when you do, you lose low end bass frequencies so you're back to the stack .

Or have monitor mix feed your signal into vocal monitors and or side fills.

Something about having the wind to your back... yrmv.

Was just looking for a quick reference, and I found this old quote from @JimmyM that summed it up perfectly. Figured I might as well use it, sure he won't mind. :D

if you "lose" floor coupling from putting it a few inches off the floor or tilting it back, you're not losing it...you're gaining high end and mids which makes the low end seem smaller by comparison. you have to elevate your cabs about 28 inches to lose floor coupling.

For the record @bassmike2010 , not saying you're necessarily wrong, but just providing some additional details for those looking to do the tilt or stand thing.

The MB212-ii is super lightweight so I just set it on top of something, usually a road case or something similar, sometimes I ask to borrow an empty keg from the bar. Just a 1-2 feet is all you need, and some folks even use an actual amp stand:). IMO, the floor coupling more often than not leads to mud, so when im on the floor I use a GRAMMA Pad, even with the "stack".

I haven't even had a chance to open the controls up, but the early test was promising.

The amp this replaces is an SWR Workingmans 10 combo. The GK has more than double the watts, a bigger speaker, and is a pound lighter. So while it may not blow the other 2 GK rigs I have out of the water, I'm sure the SWR is no match.

When I get a chance to take this to band practice, I will surely post results.

Agreed abput the approx. 28" (thanks to Bill F.) for the math on this although tilting the cabinet at an extreme angle changes this altogether.

Kro,
Do you typically run the input and boost controls low with the master high as a rule, or was this the best setting for yesterday's gig?

Mind if you post pictures of your MB212-ii? Contemplating on getting one but saw it's schematics and size from Sweetwater being almost the same as my 4x10MB.
This combo sounds best with my Jazz Bass's....so I grabed a photo of both to give perspective.
(Yes thats a Diamond compressor on top, pairs great with passive Fenders)

Cool, glad to know the 2x12 are kinda the same in height (2x12 is a little taller) with the 4x10! Any compressor would do and is indeed a nice pair with my Fender Fretless Mustang as well

Thanks. I've got the 112-II which is my one, and maybe my only bass amp. I'm still figuring out its strengths and weaknesses. I dont envision needing anything bigger in the immediate future, so if I ever need bigger/better would an extension cab be sufficient, or will I need to trade up?

I seem to most often anymore, for the reason that it allows me to ratchet up natural sounding additional harmonic distortion via the combined levels of the preamp volume and boost as volume increases.

Personally I find the same level of distortion that would sound natural on a large stage sounds pretty jarring at lower volume levels.

Keep in mind that not pictured is my VTDI in the back of the rack that gives me some baseline distortion, but everything past that is dialed in by inching both volume and boost up in tandem on the GK. It's the most natural way that I've found to manage it so far, and I find that a little goes a long way for my needs.

With that being said, once I set my volume and boost level at the begining of a show, I use the woofer master to control volume from there, and usually I just send my pre DI signal (post VTDI) to the board, so everything happening with my GK is usually reserved only for those on-stage.

I could totally see those wanting a more consistent level of harmonic distortion, especially with no other means to get it, to do things the other way around. Whatever works best - these amps are extremely flexible.
