Lead is heavy. I've never tried sledding on a 700rb so I didn't know about that part.

Even the 80's GK's were light compared to other amps of the time. 25-30lbs is what Ashdown and Hartke Class A/B amps weigh today; I would be surprised if a new Class A/B GK would weigh less. My 90's Trace Elliot SMX series weighed >50lbs.

Yeah, "lead sled" is a reference to their weight, so it isn't a clear-cut category.
For example, although they have a transformer, some people don't categorize the old RBs as lead sleds because their weight wasn't extreme. And I have a QSC GX5 with one toroidal (small) transformer that only weighs 28 lbs, and some wouldn't call it a lead sled either.

But I think the essential distinction, now, is: Class D or not Class D, with everything that is NOT Class D belonging to this nostalgic category of old-type amps, even if they aren't actually very heavy, nor very old.

Oh, well, it leads to a LOT of long threads here.

I emailed them last week , and Jason said they are going to try to release the New RB's and the New Fusion 550 at the end of the year.
And yes I would assume they are led sleds , because thats part of what makes them so great , and different from the Fusion S and Legacy / MB's .

FWIW, class D still has transformers, just due to the higher frequency power supplies, they are a lot lighter.

Perhaps too deep a question here, are the class D modules dependent on the high frequency power supply section Providing a sample frequency or "clock"? SLM Ampeg had a conventional power supply on a class D circuit with the details "hidden" from "eyes on schematics and in epoxy in physicality. @agedhorse @rag @BbbyBld ?

How does 2 212 neos sound compared to the 412 neo cab? Is there any noticeable differences? Looking for a second 412 neo but finding a lot more 212 neo available on the used market.

I got my 3'rd 412 from a guy that replaced it with 2- 212's .
the 2-212's were taller than the 412 , cuz the arrangement was more vertical ..but he said the 412 had more punch ,,,probably due to the coupling effect .
he is happy non the less , so I would guess to say , if you went dirty with one and clean with the other , go dirty with the tall stack or have the option to bi-amp with the 2-212's an see what you like most .

I can't see there being a noticeable difference other than you can stack the 212 vertical.

Extremely happy with my new (to me) 1001RB-II that I picked up on the TB classifieds recently. Just one thing - one of the "feet" screws is like, stuck in the bottom as though the thread is stripped. Has this happened to anyone else when removing the feet to rack these amps? If so uh... what's the easiest way to yank this bad boy out?

Also wondering why the fan is not really aligned with the vent on the top. Assuming that's just part of the design, but it's quite weird.

Otherwise, this thing is a tone monster and the power is just incredible.

Class D is independent of the power supply type, though in a few designs there is shared control with regards to things like regulation and protection with class D/SMPS but it's not "required".

Sweet rig , I've always wanted to try the 12+15 for a pure clean tone.

I noticed you daisy chained the speaker box connections instead of using both speaker outlets on the amp ,
does it make a difference in doing so ?

Question on the 212-I neo vs the 212-II neo cabinet. Having a hard time finding specs on the 212-I but I was able to find one site with old content that stated the 212-I is slightly different dimensions, weight, frequency response 36Hz to 19KHz vs the 212-II neo that is 53Hz to 19kHz? Just wondering if this was true? Im looking for a 412 or 2 212s and some series I showed up. Thanks!

would make sense , cuz the porting is different ,Series 1 has 2 circular ports, the Series 2 has a triangular corner porting , I think they went back to circular in gen 3's , which had 3 circular ports , not sure tho on gen 3, what makes them gen 3 .
I kinda remember series 1 also being a bit taller and more narrow.

But maybe the speaker in Series 1 was different altogether since that may be the time GK started putting out Neo speakers.
They were one of the first companies to do so. and Bob said in a video that he learned to change the construction of the coils to "edge wound" I believe is the term.
So if I were you , and wanted to match the 412 with 2-212's , series II ( corner ported , top center GK badge) is your best bet

I stand corrected, the series 1 neo 212 frequency is 53Hz to 19KHz not 36Hz, I was able to find official specs from GK online for the first series of neos.
