Re micro vs lead sled - the amp sitting on top of the speaker doesn't do the work, the electricity coming from the wall does the work. It's just a matter of how much of that electricity you want to turn into wasted heat and how much you want to use to drive the speakers. It's more like an HDTV versus a cathode ray tube. I'll take the "toy" - and I know you're messing around. ;-)

Very big low end. Loved being able to push the pre-amp tubes. Best tubey drive I've gotten out of any hybrid.

OP here, since the original post, I ended up buying the Genz Benz Streamliner 900, (cuz I got it for a really good price) It's a Great amp, and I really dig it, but for some reason, the GK Fusion 550 is still in the back of my mind cause I continue to hear/read Great things about them; I'm wondering if there's anyone that has owend or A/B'd the two of them and their thoughts on the two. ...?

The Streamliner 900 does indeed have tons of bottom end, not that I ever crank the Low end, but I know it's there if I ever need it (BTW, I'm playing through two 2x10 cabs); but I hear the 550 is "no slouch" in the lows either. Funny, I find the mids and treble on the 900 to be plenty, but then, I haven't giggled with it yet so ...

That gig, I was playing my Sadowsky MV5JJ; with fresh rounds on it.
It was just super muddy. Could a been a P bass with flats and the passive control turned down, for all I could tell.
Totally not my thing.
again, fine amp, many folks like it. Not my thing.

I HAVE TO find a place that has one (Fusion 550) in the store so I can try one out with one of MY Basses, I can't rest until I do ... and hopefully they'll have the MB 800 in store as well, so I can test that out while I'm at it, Ha!

I was able to try this amp at Sam ash and fell in love with it.
It was hooked up to a GK 410RBH and GK 115RBH.
Everything was used. I was able to try a similar bass at Sam ash and couldn't believe the tone. I had to walk out of the store before I took it with me. My wife would've been pissed.

I went back a week later to make the purchase only on the Amp and the whole rig was sold! :banghead:

That IS my rig. A NEO212 II only gets sub'ed when the gig is too small for the 412.

500 or 800 depends on the room acoustics and I generally don't use a lot of Contour (7:00 "off" and 10:00) unless I'm going for a real wooly sound which also gets the bass boost (massive old school thump). The 550 (that I have anyway) is not a bright amp, the highs are very clear and more "natural" than artificially bright and the bright switch is always on. I guess if I really boosted the treble it could get brighter, but I haven't wanted that kind of sound (treble between 11:00 and 1:00 again venue driven). One setting for "channel 2" I had the bright switch off for "Enter Sandman". I set up an overdriven distorted sound for that song, I made adjustments until the lead singer's eyes got wide and he had goose bumps, but I I had to breath on the master volume to keep from blowing everyone off the stage.

The more i play with this amp ,the more i love it ,i find its the strengh in the mids that enable me to punch thru ,i enjoy the crunch i get from overdriveing the tubes .the amp sounds great with my l2500 or my passive cheap as chips frettless. I bought a 15 neo ii cab on a whim when i grabed the amp and it sounds great however i love it with my old gk quad box .both together they actually complement each other .where as the quad is a rather bassy the 15 is middy .eq for ysing them mixed is great and i dont find my self fighting either cab...gigging wise i prefer the quad. ..club owners tend to get up set when you bring more than one cab and since pa support is the norm its just a monitor .thats where the di comes to shine .i tend to use pre eq .less hassel at the sound guy end.for recording post eq is gold .
I did play a gig recently where the backline was a 800rb .....probly the only other amp id think about getting.
