If Im not mistaken the new legacy amps are supposed to be the new RBs....
From Robert Gallien: "I want to talk about the Legacy 500 concept. From the beginning of this project I wanted to bring out a model that had similar specs to the 800RB. We haven't had an amp like the 800RB since it went out of production so this is what I was aiming for. The 800RB put 300W into 4 Ohms from one side and 100W into 8 Ohms from the other side. Total output power was 400W but it took a 4 Ohm cabinet and an 8 Ohm cabinet. Very few people used the 100W side so mostly it was used as a 300W amplifier. As it turns out 300W is a very good power level when you want to use the rails and that is where a lot of the GK growl comes from. When you have more power, the levels get really loud when you go into the rails so 300W is kind of a sweet spot. When the Legacy 500 is loaded to the same max as the 800RB you will get 450W which is a little more than the 800RB. The 300W rating into 4 Ohms is at 1% which when compared to other amplifiers whose ratings are based on 5% or even 10% it will seem more powerful than it's rating. This has been a common comment regarding GK amplifiers, that they seem much louder than the rating."
I'm running mine pretty much as he intended - I've got a 4ohm 2x12 Neo, and an 8ohm 1x12 Neo. Of course, it's not exactly like the way the 800RB would work with the two power amps/two cabs. I coulda sprung for a Legacy 800 but I'm totally happy with the 500--with just the 2x12 it is LOUD. I haven't even been able to test the full rig yet at proper gig volumes - pretty sure it crushes. I never owned an 800RB but used them in backline more times than I can remember, and to me it has "that" sound.
RAG has said in the GK Club thread that they are working on a new non-class D RB series
Oh hot damn, say it ain’t so….. I would be too stoked for something like this. I have a class D I’m happy with so to find a new non-class D that may be 25 pounds or less would be awesome.

Yes RAG is Robert A Gallien, founder, engineer, president and still present owner and design engineer for his company since the late 1960's.
GK was my 1st serious amp. Well if you don't count my Acoustic 360. That was a serious amp that I was willing to move in my teens. But that got heavy and GK was like "light" compared to the other offerings of the day.
I went 400RB to 800RB (frankly preferred the 400RB). Then I was bitten by the EDEN bug. Then MarkBass, Aguilar, Genzler and Mesa.
I dig all of them! But I could come full circle for a Class A/B GK head in that 300 to 400 watt range, for old times sake.

Your early days sound like mine. Had a big Acoustic combo and then went to a 400RB which pretty much lasted through about 20 years with different bands and some gigs. I had to “semi-retire” after that and sold it, but missed GK so much i eventually bought an MB500 (great amp too), even though just for at-home playing. Recently i also picked up a PLEX.
