Gallien-Krueger MB2-500: Part II

Sam thing happned to me. RMC said to just call GK for a replacement (209) 234-7300. I gave them a call about that issue. Talked to a woman, forgot her name. They sent me a UPS shipping return slip that afternoon and shipped a new one the next day.
No issues with the new one. I used it at practice last night and it cranks. No distortion out of this one. Very edgy and punchy with or without the boost on, although the boost will give you more edge. Cut through very well for hard rock with two loud noisy guitarists.

It's the Gk tone all the way. Actually more edge to it than my 1001RBII running at 8ohms into a 410SBX cab. Knobs setup for rock like the manual, master 3o'clock and input about 10.

It seems to me the difference is kind of like a V8 purring down the road at 100mph versus a 4 or 6cylinder doing the same thing with just a little more work.

Now that I have a working one, the first impression was very good. I like using the DI into a mixer over just headphones for home play.

Well, the three-tube, full plate voltage preamp from the Fusion 550, combined with the form factor and output section of the MB2​ 500? I call that pretty darned promising! :bassist: :D :cool:

I've been a holdout when it comes to the micro form factor but this has piqued my interest as I really liked the Fusion 550 that I tried. I"ll be staying tuned for that. Thanks for reporting from the trenches. Cheers.

I got to try one of these today at GC that was luckily empty at the amp did sound down right amazing and very GK'ish after reading most of part 1 of this thread it got me pretty excited to try one out being a long time GK fan my trusty 400RB has been through hell and back and in going to GC my thought was if the MB is in the ballpark of the 400RB but louder it will be very tempting to pick one up.

I got to try a Little Mark as well and that amp sounds awesome as well just a different type of awesome.

one thing I did notice that was questionable...

I saw/heard the MB2 does the GK speaker pop when you turn it off it didn't do it when you turn in on which is nice but I did notice that the speakers did a slight pop when I turned it off. Is that normal? and if so why?!?!?! My old 400RB had this issue and to this day anytime I use it I turn on the head 1st then plug in my speaker...unplug my speaker then turn off head to avoid the speaker pop.

When can we expect the MB fusion?

I am strongly considering getting one of these heads. I just traded my Titan for a 400+. That will be my head, but as a gigging musician, I know problems can come up. I want a head that's small enough to keep in my gig bag at all times, just in case. I had a LMII and like it a lot, but I also like GK heads... and the thought of getting a tube pre in the form factor of the MB2 is really good. Any idea on what the price will be?

i think earlier in the thread brian said a release date of april 09 (i remember cause i thought it was pretty smart to release it around tax time) and i believe rag said $699.00 ($100.00 more than the mb2-500). i reserve the right to be wrong. i'm going simply by memory cause i'm too lazy to search through the thread for ya. but the actual answers are in there if you want to start looking around.

The MB Fusion will be available by the end of April and the street price will be $699

UK member here, just wondering where i can get myself one of these? Has the MB-500 been discontinued in Europe in the anticipation of the MB fusion as i can't find any european retailer that sells them? When can we expect the MB fusion to come out in europe?

We just started shipping the MB2-500 to Europe.
We anticipate shipping the MB Fusion to Europe by mid-Summer.
