Gallien-Krueger MBE410 Cab Is Here!

I finally got to use the MB-F + MBE410 rig at my usual gig last night. Settings ended up somewhere around:
Channel B, Gain @ 12:00, Contour Off, Bass @ 11:30, Low Mids @ 12:30, High Mids @ 1:00, Highs @ 12:00, Presence and Deep Off, Limiter Off, Master...maybe 9:30.

This rig is noticably 'wider' sounding than the MB212 combo. It somehow doesn't feel as punchy to me. I think tonight I'll go a little higher with the Low Mids and see if that doesn't help. There is plenty of sizzle though, even with the tweeter off. The lows are all there and it grinds like crazy in the upper mids. Overall an outstanding performance! :hyper:

If the cab had side handles, I could just velcro the head on there and call it an MBF410 combo!!

Great feedback, thanks. I've been playing around with mine in the living room, but can't turn up to high volumes at home. Though it sounds quite nice, very different from the 210MBE. I'll be trying it at practice this coming week with one of the 210's for a 610 stack. I'm hoping it works out well. When I tried the 2x210 stack it was a boomy mess, so I have high hopes this works out better. I've also since, temporarily sealed the ports on the 210's and it seems to have tamed the boom to a manageable level. Keeping my fingers crossed or else it's back to the drawing concerning my cab set up and somebody will be getting a nice deal on some MBE cabs.

Just got an e-mail from a musician friend who was out to hear us last night, and he said the same thing. "It didn't sound as punchy and articulate as your combo (MB212)."

It sure has more highs & lows....I'll try to get more mids (or roll-off more bass) tonight!

Yeah this cab has a lot of deep bass. I find it works best with my GK1001RBII in 4 string mode which gives it the classic tight GK voicing. It works really well with my band, but I'm looking for a pillowy low end sound. If I put it in 5 string mode it has too much deep low end.

We have practice on Wed. I'm going to see how it sounds with my Schroeder 1515l this should beef up the mids, but it might also have some weird phasing problems because the cabs are voiced so differently. It will be awesome if it works though....... An 85 pound 4x10, 2x15 rig!

So I hooked up the mid sized rig of doom last night at practice. The best word I can use to describe the sound is solid. These cabs complement each other perfectly. I A / A+B'd the cabs. The 410MBE alone sounded good, but when I plugged in the 1515L wow.

The tone sounded deeper, more even and the notes just seemed to be coming from everywhere at once filling the room with this solid round/growly tone. Running down the B string results in absolutely no perceivable difference intone. Its just solid right to the bottom. I didn't get any of the weird phasing effects that I was fearing, or if they were there they just happen to help the sound.....lucky me. I had to put a piece of foam in between the cabinets because the corners don't match at all. I'm thinking of adding rubber feet to the 410MBE.

So I have:
GK1001RBII 700 Watts into 4 ohms 22lbs
GK 410MBE 8 ohms handles 800 watts 4x10 neo 42lbs
Schroeder 1515L 8 Ohms handles 800 watts 2x15 neo 40 lbs

Total weight 104 lbs in easy to move pieces. This should handle the out door gigs coming up this summer.

This is definitely an old school set up with modern lightweight drivers and cabinet construction. It sounds great and it definitely has its own voice which i like a lot. I wish I could compare it to a Fearful 15/6. I was really leaning in that direction, but I already had the Schroeder for a few years and the 410MBE really intrigued me with its sealed design, low weight and high power handling......next step Power amp! Actually I probably really don't need that

Nothing that I can think of, as I don't have any experience with that head. I would suggest running a separate EQ through the FX loop, just in general. But it may be a little late for tonight's performance.

I got a VT Bass, and found the EQ section to be pretty horrible. The Bass knob seemed to be stationed around 31hz (which was way too boomy for me), the Mid is around 1khz (I love that area, but would like some control a bit lower as well), and the High is boosted way too much when the knob is at noon. I ran a 10-band EQ through the FX loop and within minutes had everything exactly where I wanted it, plus the awesome tonal characteristics of the VT.

I'm pretty sure when I finally get this cab, I'll be able to dial in pretty close to what I want (take away some boom, and crank the mids, because they are apparently lacking in this cab).

Well, last night was a lot better. Running the A channel with less gain got me a tighter sound. I ended up with the lows rolled off just a tad, around 11:30, high and low mids pushed up..maybe around 1:00 and highs at noon. It had more of a, dare I say....solid state sound? Maybe that's what I'm going for, since I loooove the MB212!!

I'm pretty sure the MBE410 has a resonance in the 82hz range because wherever I play E2 on the neck it kind of 'lunges' out of there. It was better last night, although I was playing with a guitar player instead of the usual keyboards, so there was MUCH more 'space' to fill (IOW..much easier to hear the bass).

What you are describing sounds like standing waves to me. Take the cabinet into a different room, and see if you have the same experience.

Hey guys! I've had the mbe410 for about 3 weeks now and also the new mb500 head. It's a 4ohm cab as well and I can tell you the set up is just great! Nice lows and mids as well! Lots of power (more then I can use). I run the gain no higher then 12 noon. The bass is tight all the way around. IMO it's a great set up. Also, I put casters on it. I can move the cab with one hand anywhere!:hyper:

You could pull the drivers and stuff the cab with about 3 lbs of Acoustastuff. That should damp out that resonance and clean up the mid range. I'm really thinking about trying this, but I'm too lazy to bring my cab home from the practice space.
