Gallien-Krueger MBE410 Cab Is Here!

1. Give the grills a light sanding with a fine sand paper. I used 800

2. Paint with a single coat of flat black spray paint. You can skip this step, but it makes it almost impossible to see the grill underneath the cloth. The silver shows through quite a bit.

3. Spray both the grill and cloth with 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive. I usually let is sit for about 10min so it gets nice and tacky. Make sure you get the edges of the grill. If you miss any spots you can touch up with some brush on contact cement.

4. Once the adhesive is ready lay one end of the cloth on the edge of the grill. Use which ever method you want to make sure it's straight.

5. Gently smooth down the cloth onto the top of the grill. Hold it up to the light so you can check that it lined up well. If not carefully pull it back up and try again. I find this step is easiest with two people. I should also add that since the cloth stretches and moves easily it is next to impossible to get everything totally straight. I just try and make sure it lines up along all of the edges as much as possible.

6. If your happy with the alignment smooth the cloth over the edges of the grill.

7. Let it sit for a bit and then trim the excess with scissors or a razor blade.

lol, that's basically why I went with this... I was set on something about twice the weight, but I can be REALLY lazy, and figured that if I was thinking about going out with that other cab, that I would think about the lifting it into my jeep and not bother or something. Then I was thinking of getting a 210 for smaller shows, but when I realized this weighed the same (or even less) I was sold.

Agreed, I was motivated largely by laziness. The back of my Jeep is pretty much completely full of my work gear and to fit the Mesa I had clear everything out and take it inside.

The size and weight of the MBE cabs are pretty remarkable. I'm just hoping it isn't to the detriment of the over all sound. I guess we'll see how they hang with the band.

Haha, that's funny... the back of my Jeep is pretty much completely full of work gear too. I've already decided this puppy will sit on the passenger seat belted in (if I can stretch them that far) with the bass on the back bench.

I'll guess we'll see how they sound, with my background and experience though, I'm sure I'll be impressed no matter what. I'm disappointed the tweeter apparently sounds like crud, but I won't be using it much anyway. Tallboybass seems to love it. Any gigging experience with it yet Tallboy?

When its on the tweeter really seems to open up the overall sound on the 210. In the on position it's more than I need plus it hisses like crazy. I ordered the parts to add an L-Pad so it is adjustable. I'll keep you posted on how that works out.

Just a question to anyone who has this, I'm going to attempt an DIY Gramma Pad, so I need to verify measurements. All I can see for measurements is: 24.5 X 23.5 X 14.75.

I'm assuming it's 24.5" width x 23.5" height x 14.75" length/depth. Is this right. I don't care if height/width are backwards, just making sure a base of 26" x 17" would be good. Thanks

Matthew, mine is 16" deep by 23" wide. They must have changed dimensions when they decided to make it a sealed cab.

Oh I see, so the measurements I had was when it was ported with handles on the side (judging by the photo on the store's website). Well that's great to know! Thanks Tallboy.

Sorry Tallboy, got another question for you... Is the Speakon connector on this cab 2-pole or 4-pole? Also, is there any difference in sound quality between the two (my amp accepts both)?

I'm pretty sure all of the MBE cabs are 2 pole. The 4 pole connector enables you to use the bi-amp section some of the GK heads have. This allows you to dial in separate woofer and tweeter levels. The tweets on the MBE's are on or off. Also the cabs that GK makes that are compatible with this feature will have a switch labeled bi-amp/full range on the back plate.

It isn't going to the moon. It's not keeping your newborn baby alive. Just don't turn it up full volume right away. It will be fine, just like the millions of speakers before it.

One thing I CAN tell you about this cab, it has plenty of lows.....and highs. Even without the tweeter!

.....and it's quite portable. I installed casters on it, and the one handle on the top worked out fine. Easily the lightest 410 I've EVER experienced!

I got one of the 410MBEs early on, right when they came out and have gigged it quite a few times now. I really like this cab alot, very punchy, tight and articulate IMO - but with a good "cushion" to the lows without being overly boomy.

It's a good, loud, affordable, super light and very compact gigging 4x10 cab. I am not a tweeter guy, and the cab puts out plenty of highs without the tweet on anyway. It's a piezo tweeter so they have limitations.

It would be nice to have side handles but this cab is so light the single top handle works fine. I use a small rolling cart for it and it's the easiest I have ever moved a 4x10 cab.

I agree with everything you've said here...except, I put some lightweight 3" casters on mine. The only way it could be easier to move would be to put a motor on it and drive it to the gig!!

And here she is. 1st impressions are that it is very light. I can easily pick it up with both hands from the bottom and just kind of hug it as I walk. It's definitely a very solid little cabinet. No vibrations or anything like that when I knock on it. The sound is smooth and growly. It handles the B string no problem. My tweeter is dead quiet, but that is probably due to my amp. I play a Pbass with flats so the tweeter adds just a little bit of edge that I can hear.

I can compare it to my other two cabinets. It has more mids than an Aguilar GS112, but easily as much bass, It is much smoother top to bottom than a Schroeder 1515L, but it is not as bright in the upper mids. I think I will be getting the perfect pillowy bass sound out of this thing.

If the bass turns out to be too boomy I can stuff the cabinet with fiberglass which will give it a more damped response, but it does sound pretty good right now in the house.

I have band practice tomorrow so I'll give it a pretty good workout. We won't be getting too loud though because we are trying to do some low budget basement recording.

Great review... I'm way too excited for this cab to arrive, and I say that because I have a feeling it could take some time. I'm not liking the handle on the top though, it is a little thicker than I imagined it to be, would have thought it would have been recessed a bit, but side handles would have been better altogether...
