I just got one a couple months ago as a backup to my Firebass 700. It was pretty abused, so I'm in the process of restoring it. It's electronically in good health once again, but I still have to restore the battle scarred powder coat finish. I ran it full range through an Avatar B212 Neo & I love the pure, clean power as well as the ballsy grit that happens when pinning the boost. I'm hunting down some cabs specifically for it as well - two 1x12 cabs (Avatar, Bag End or Genz Benz) and a high frequency cab for the real biamp deal. I see myself using it for a long time to come.

Errr, could only pull together half the money for it, so I went in and put a down payment to hold it, then played it in the store for another hour.

I really do like it, it seems like a modern SVT 8x10 cabinet.

I plan on buying a second later too :hyper:

Out of all the Amp heads that I've had and still have,I've yet to even think about selling my GK800RB. It has never once fail me when all of the others have at some point except for the Aguilar 750 DB and for the price it had better not !,but the GK800RB can and will sound good with any cabinet regardless of who makes it.

Last Friday night, the bass player for our opening band showed up w/his Backline 600 and asked if he could use my cabs. I had him play through my Avatar B212 Neo. He was playing a passive Squier 5 string using mostly his P pickup. It sounded pretty good to my ears despite the fact that the poor guy had to deal with having three guitar players in his band. The combo you mentioned would be a winner & the Avatar will really be there for you if and when you upgrade your head for more power.

Did you by any chance go to the Guitar Center in Orange, CT? They have a 800 hooked up to a Genz Benz 1x15 and a 4x10. GK cabs are the only ones that will run GK's bi-amp mode. That is the biggest reason people go with them. But the bi-amp mode isn't all that great. The only featuer I would use it for is the boost. I can control the woofer volume on the head, and the tweeter volume on the back of my Avatar.

I didn't get to check that out. I usually go to the GC in Manchester for strings and to see if anything funky came in on trade. I'm not sure if GK cabs only is the hard & fast rule for acheiving biamp mode with an 800RB (someone correct me if I'm wrong). An old timer classic rock player I know in my area runs his 800RB into a 4ohm Eden 15"er for his lows and an 8ohm Hartke XL 2x10 for his highs & I think It sounds primo. I figure two 8ohm 1x12 cabs for my lows and probably an 8ohm Hartke XL 2x10 or better yet, a 4x5 "brite box" cab for my highs would make a perfect smaller rig for situations other than my main band.

And cab can be setup to run with the GK HMS system, or 800RB biamp, but most don't have the correct wiring as stock. GK uses nothing more than industry standard biamp wiring on thier speakon . . . . . no magic at all there . . . cost? Less than $10, and for most folks, I would think less than 30 minutes . . . .

The speaker outs, and the internal power amps on the GK800Rb is totally different than the 700RB or 1001RB heads. The latter heads rely upon a 4 conductor speakon cable to transmit the bi-amp signal to the woofer and tweeter seperatly in GK cabs with the 4 conductor input HMS system.

The 800 has no dedicated output for a tweeter per se. Your assumption is correct. Its designed to work with two seperate speaker cabinets with standard inputs.

I've had an 800rb for a few months. I run 2 - 8 ohm Avatar cabinets (2x12 + 2x10) off the 300 watt "low" channel. I tried running the 2x10s off the 100 w high channel but didn't really like bi-amp mode. I bought the head from E-Bay, it's pretty old and beat up looking, but it seems to work!
