Galveston Unlined Fretless?

I've been gassing for an unlined fretless (I play a lined MIM J-Bass now) and keep coming across both the black and natural Galveston fretless basses on EBay; maple body, solid-looking bridge, sealed tuners, "Ebonite (I think they mean Ebanol)" fingerboard and P/J pups. At $249 how can you go wrong? Anyone have any experience with this simple-looking but rather attractive bass?

Is it a 4 string? A 240 dollars 4 string can last your about a year if not less...

im not sure about the quality of Galvestons whether they are comparable to SX/Squer/Titan

I bit the bait and ordered a Galveston unlined 4-string fretless from "Musician's Heaven" on eBay for $139 plus shipping! These guys have a solid reputation and this will be the second inexpensive Galveston bass I have purchased from them. A slightly different configuration of this same design is available from Musician's Friend as a "Rogue" brand instrument for $119!

My normal 4-stringers are U.S.-made Fender Precision Specials for the late '90s (P-J configuration with a maple Jazz neck) but I wanted an inexpensive introduction to 5-string and fretless territory.

For under $400 I got BOTH... a very nice looking active 5-string (MM-style pickup with 3-band active EQ; body style like a Gibson DC Special or EB) and a 4-string fretless (P-J configuration, passive). The return policy and support that Musician's Heaven provides (not counting the fact that they open up, inspect and set-up each guitar before it ships!) makes this a no brainer as long as your expectations are aligned with the price.

I'll let you know what happens on the fretless... it will be a week or so before I see it. The only thing wrong with this picture is the fact that the fretless bass comes with round-wound strings (cheap bastards... when you spend $139 you expect some quality flat wounds, right? ).

I got a galveston PJ fretless as a replacement for my peavey, and it has everything I am looking for in a cheap replacement. the pickups are okay, the bass sounds like a good pair of passives (think like an EMG) with a decent bottom, good mid to mid highs (I got it with flats, haven't changed them to half rounds,will do that to get more highs) I expect all the high end I might be wanting will improve without flatwounds, though playing country is good with flats, and the fretboard won't get chewed up like I had with a Hohner and an ebonite fretboard with full rounds. Its basically identical to an Ibanez soundgear up to the headstock (different labeling, of course) so I would say it's from the same factory.

I did not get the fretless Galveston but I did get the beatle bass. I also went through Musician's Heaven. The bass is good deal for the money. It even Arrived in tune and the bridge pretty much spot on.
