Just recieved my Pistoy E-String "light" gauge! :-)
It is really a thing of beauty! Looking forward to playing it! I LOVE my Pistoy G-, D-, and A-string!!!

The beast is now on the bass! :-) I had my luthier install the string earlier today and do some adjustments to the bridge and saddle. It needs a couple of weeks to settle, but right out of the box, I have a very good feeling about it! Nice volume, amazing tone, and arco feels really good! And you can actually hear the pitch center up untill thump position! Better than expected! ;-)

I imagine a full set would run up close to $800. I love my pistoy d and g strings. The trick is to obsessively check the classifieds and jump on them when they come up used, or wait for their yearly (I think) 25% off sale on bass strings (last one was in January). I would love to try a full plain set of these, but not bad enough to cough up the dough and hog out the nut and bridge slots on my bass!

It feels very good, and if you are into gut-strings I think you will love it! I do! It is by far the biggest E-String I have ever played, but I really like the feeling under the fingers! I dont think that it is to floppy, the tension is just right with the full Pistoy set!

And the sound is just gorgeous! Very deep and dark! I have played in many different concert- and rehearsal-situations with it now, ranging from acoustic trio jazz, to bigger jazz ensembles and a chamber ensemble, all with very good results! Most of the time I play without an amp, and before the installation I was scared that it wouldn't have enough volume to play sans amp with drums, but it held up just fine, and with HUGE fundamentals that sits well in the mix. As with the rest of the Pistoy-set arco is a dream, and I really love the sound, but it is of course a different sound than with steel-strings! :-)

At some point I will try to post some sound-clips! :-)

So, my Pistoy E light gauge has been on a couple of months now, and I am still in love with it!
The sound and the feeling is simply amazing!
I recently did a recording-session with my wife, duo with vocals and bass, and I have posted our version of the classic Fletwood Mac tune "Landslide" from their record "Rumours".
It's recorded at the old danish national radio-broadcasting studio. The bass was recorded with an old ribbon-mike in front of the bridge, and a DPA 4061 between the legs of the bridge, and the sound is a mix of these. This is the full Gamut Pistoy-set, and the E-string can be heard playing the low G, F# and the open E during this song.

Hope you enjoy! :-)

Anyone have an update on this string? My new bass is currently strung up with plain gut vintage A and D strings and Lenzner "Jazz" gauge G, and the bass is taking really well to gut. I'm currently playing the E string game and I'm extremely curious about the viability of this string...is it very slow to speak? Can it handle walking lines at fast tempos? Any advice would be wonderful...it's not a cheap date! I've used a pistoy A in the past so I have some frame of reference.

Hey man,
What type of results did you get from the pistoy A? I’m thinking of getting a Heavy+, just want to make sure thumb position by the E harmonic on the A string is actually going to make sound though..
