I don't know...

Sexual Orientation is usually about just that...sex. What anyone does in the bedroom is about as far from public life as I can imagine.

I think it goes a big step beyond commenting on how someone looks which as you say Sam can be, rude.

It happens to a lot of the virtuoso masters, they spend all their life perfecting their craft and traveling the world. Then all of the sudden they are fifty or sixty something and teaching full-time at a university and realize they haven't found love. I takes a lot of practice and commitment to be as good as he is and to change th view of the instrument the way he has.
