I'm old and know a whole lot of words -- including some of the big ones and some technical ones -- and have seen/heard many, many shows. This, IMHO, is a perfectly articulate account.
Here's some links to the band I mentioned earlier in this old thread. I was thinking it was under Harold Land's name but it was Carmell Jones' session with Harold, Frank Strazzeri, and Leon Petties, who went with Nat Cole later, and Gary.
It was recorded in 1961 in L.A. before Gary moved to NYC.
And also on Pacific Jazz, 1961, Carmell and Gary cut an album ("New Groove") with Bud Shank. At this same time, possibly the same month, only with Dennis Budimir on guitar and Mel Lewis on drums. They must have been churning out the records with various players and instrumentations during that period. It's as if Pacific Jazz was trying to become Prestige Records west![]()
