GAS for a Squire!?!?

Blonde? That would be nice, but then they would have to use fine grained ASH as the grain shows through on the blonde finish. Maybe Basswood won't look good under see-through Blonde finish? Looks interesting though.

I have played fretless for awhile, but don't currently own one. The main reason is, I rarely need one for the type of music I play. This inexpesive little gem would fit perfectly: sounds great, looks good, and is easy on the wallet. I can't justify spending much more on a bass that would not get used very often. That being said, I wouldn't touch a Squier,or any Fender for that case, for my fretted needs. Never have liked them very much.

Nope, it's just a regular Pbass, I mod'ed it myself with SD Sledge Hammer p/u, my next move is replacing the tone pot with a ToneStyler. It's my frankenbass, I can do anything I want, try anything out, and not feel guilty at all. It's never even seen a shop set-up, I've done all the adjustments myself (which I do not do with my other basses).

It's also the only bass I own with any stickers on it ;)

I was referring to the early Squire JV (japanese vintage) series which were made from original Fender drawings in the FujiGen factory who was at that time an OEM for Hoshino Gakki (Ibanez). Lots of USA parts on those and "if" you can find one BUY IT! They had a Fender logo with small Squire logo.

I had to jump over to wiki and check as my memory ain't what it used to be. VERY interesting reading if you look at the Squire section.

I've been Gasing for an original JV (Squier series) since day dot lol. the problem is that they cost a lot of money over here... (about equal to $900). My friend used to have a strat from that series, lovely guitar!

For those of you wondering why Fender is "allowing" Squier to creep up in selection and quality, have you noticed that most of the MIM line has quietly risen to the $550-$800 range? Pretty much everything but the Standard Series (for both guitar and bass) for the time being...but I bet there will be a change there, soon, too.

It really blows my mind when stories like this pop up ...the sad thing is that there's probably more people that think this story is true than people who know that Squier was the man's last name.

Back on topic....:D (has to be a first for me....)

GAS for a Squier is becoming a regular phenomenon 'round these parts. I just satisfied my Squier GAS with the VM Jazz that came last week. Satisfied for now that is. That Classic Vibe JAzz is starting to look mighty tasty.....

As to why? I personally have to wonder if the Squier line is not going to take over for the MIM Fenders. I am almost sure they might in terms of sales numbers, but with many of the Squier's (the VM series)being so much better or on par with the MIM, and with the new Classic Vibe series and Artist series....one has to wonder if the MIM line is going bye bye....

Yeah I have that bass, actually is my first bass. Love it a lot. Only thing about mine is the action isn't that great and if I try to lower it I get some dead spots up the neck.

Looking for something with Jazz-like pick ups now, possibly a Rondo Jaguar or just a Jazz

I have to be honest, I was extremely pleasantly surprised when I picked up the squier vm jazz... So much so that I will be buying one before fender decides that these are too good for the money and decides to make a legend out of the thing, I'm guilty of gassing for a squier...
