GASoholics Anonymous! (talk me down)

A class D amp with a tube pre-amp.

That's what I use! I have a Kern IP-777 pre feeding an SWR Amplite power amp. It's the head that relegated all my other amps into paperweights. Talk about tonal nirvana! I have not gassed for anything else amp-wise in years.

...oh wait. ....uh.

I mean... You know, you probably won't like that setup anyway. it's uh,... Well, you know. Big heavy tube power amps are really the way to go 'cause of... uh...
...stuff.

Oh my. Look at the time. Gotta run.

I was recently in a similar situation... I have small watt heads. A decent cab and a good bass...something came to my attention for a great price..I wanted it bad. But I stepped back and asked myself how could this money be more useful in the scope of my bass playing/tone/etc

I didn't buy the amp. Instead I spent the money on lessons. Best money ever spent!!!

I had the Ampeg version, and I thought it sucked.
I took it back immediately.

Wait, Ampeg has a class D amp with a tube pre-amp?

edit in:

Why yes, yes they do!

FWIW, this is not the one I checked out. The one I got delivered was a PortaFlex.

Buy a MBF800 and Fusion 550. Write a few serious reviews over the next couple of months. Take really good care of the 800 because you'll be selling it to one of us at a major loss. The 550 will be your 'be all and end all' for about a year, when something else comes along. You can call it fatalism, cycle of life, or divine destiny. Your middle name will always be, "Demo...Demo...Demo." Accept your fate.

If you get an opportunity to play with a band on Tuesday, you'll want more than 18W. It's always good to have the extra headroom in reserve. If something comes up on Tuesday, you're going to have to pay full price. Buy it! At half price you'll get more than what you paid for it if you decide to flip it in the future and you'll be ready for a call with the rest of your gear being top notch.
