GASsing with a question.....

Okay, here's my dilemma. Today, I played a six-string for the first time. In my life. Now, I'm beginning to think I need to buy one. I had read on various forums where neck width had been an issue for some, but with my obnoxiosly large hands it was not a problem. However, none of this is really the problem.

I have been wanting a fretless for some time now, and was thinking maybe, just maybe, I'd kill two birds with one stone and get a fretless sixer. Am I getting in over my head? Would I be better served taking the time to familiarize myself with each individually? I'm kinda leaning that direction, especially since one can never have too many basses. Unless you ask my wife. In that case, one is too many. :hmm:

I would say that the best thing to do is to get a six-er, get a fretless, and then, after your completely comfortable with the ins and outs of each, employ a well-known trick of the trade. When she's asleep, speak your wife in a soft, soothing voice, repeating "You want me to buy a fretless six-string." Continue that for a few months, and one day when you come home from work, she'll have bought one for you. Maybe. But it couldn't hurt to try.
