GB6.0 vs Eden550

Been playing a Shuttle 6.0 for a year now.
Owned a WT-500 in the past.

I'll take the 6.0 for the tone hands down. It's not as "boomy" sounding I guess. Just sounds tighter across the board to my ears.

And FWIW, if you get the Eden and there is an issue with it, you better hope the dealer where you got it from is willing to hook you up, otherwise, you're screwed. Their customer service sucks. (well, US Music anyway)

Genz Benz- heck, just drop hasbeen or agedhourse here on TB a PM, and they'll take care of you. They're customer service is stellar.

I've owned both. The 550 is a good head, just make sure you know what you are getting. At my last check, a lot of the features in the user manual were a misprint and those features didn't exist on the 550. Not sure if this has been corrected or not.

The 550 is more low-mid oriented and has a "smoother" sound. The Shuttle can approximate that very closely, but flat it is tighter and more defined sounding. The Shuttle Max gives much of the flexibility of the 550 with the more granular EQ options. Of course it's also much lighter.

Fan noise on the wt550 can be VERY annoying if you play in churches or other quiet venues where things settle down pretty quickly.

Eden CS has been done to death, but Mike is right. It's hit or miss on getting the support you need. Genz Benz support is the absolute best in the business.

I do not own any GB gears.
Its all IME with my friend's gear at day-long jam.

tone wise, the two heads are more similar then different.
Eden - fat with a little low mid bump
GB - crisp with a mid mid bump
they can emulate each other very closely with a little bit of EQ

SPL, very similar again.

But the real different I found, is in the delivery of the heavy, fast and loud low notes. When playing those 16th notes in staccato/percussive, the GB seems to run out of breath, and less controlled. Kinda difficult for me to explain, its like the GB actually takes longer to develop those notes, and by the time its full, I already need to mute and prepare for the next. And its not about the punch or attack either... cause the GB got it both.

That's the low-mid hump in the Eden that's filling out those notes and giving more thump. It's fairly easy to dial in on the Shuttle. The Shuttle MAX gets there even closer because of the dual semi-para mids. You can boost that low-mid to equate more with the Eden voicing, and then cut back on some of the GB upper-mid articulation. Dual parametric mid-controls are a glorious thing in the right hands. The Eden EQ is VERY powerful as well, but that extra 3rd band is usually not necessary IMO.

I owned and gigged a WT550 for about a year or so. I have also done a couple of gigs with some Genz stuff. To me they both sound excellent but the Genz voicing to my ears sounds kind of like an "improved Eden" to me. A small difference though.

If I was given the choice of either for free, I would take the shuttle over the WT550 even given the difference in price.

I've owned an Eden WT550 and a WT800B as well as presently a Genz Benz GBE1200 and I just got my GB ShuttleMax 6.0 for practice and backup...and its HANDS DOWN GENZ for Tone, Versitility, Cutting thru the mix and customer service... all as mentioned above ...Peace...DAcat :cool:

I have a WT400 and a ShuttleMAX 12.0. I was so impressed by the ShuttleMAX when I got it I decided not to A/B it with the WT until I was sure the new toy effect wore off. I've since done the testing back and forth through my Berg 210 and studio monitors (DI out) and have rather conclusively I like everything more about the ShuttleMAX :D I've had several sets of ears help me out with similar conclusions.

It's much more dynamic and lively, with more clarity, but can dirty up with the tube channel while retaining these qualities. Big and smooth! No harshness in the high mids or highs, and it's easy enough to add or subtract coloration with the EQ section, which is superb. I can more easily get what I consider warmth out of it than with the Eden.

It's reportedly easier to drive the tube with the ShuttleMAX series than the Shuttle 6.0, but I can't imagine the WT550 approaching the Shuttle 6.0's performance.

The general public seems to be pretty consistent. I also played Edens for several years and made the switch to Genz Benz. My issues were service related. Genz has never left me, or anyone else I've heard of, 'stranded' because of a service issue. Shoot, before I was an endorsing artist one of their exec's offered to loan me his personal amp if I was in a bind. That's why I am a believer in the Genz Benz brand, and their service. They go the extra mile for everybody, and their gear is totally awesome.
I agree that the Shuttle Max can be overdriven a bit easier than the straight 6.0, but both will do the job well!!

Aww man...this thread got me wanting to go to Genz Benz. I've played a GBE600 and i liked the tone. Sounds like and Eden but a little cleaner. My WT-550 has been SOLID for the 3 years I've had it. I had someone who wanted to trade me their 6.0 for my 550 and offer cash as well. I declined the deal mainly because my 550 is loud and does two ohms plus I've never played the 6.0 yet and don't want to loose headroom and volume for the sake of weight. If I do trade it, I was really looking for a ShuttleMax 12.0 or a a Shuttle 9.0.

im enjoying this thread....i just purchased today a Shuttlemax 9.0 from a fellow tb'er...i almost bought the shuttlemax 12.0 but the guy sold it right before i was about to get it,so came the 9.0.....i recently tried out an eden at a BestBuy and i really enjoyed the eden as i was playing through a jaguar model that i own and i havent heard my jaguar sound like that, which made me appreciate the eden...i have been reading some poor customer service and reliability issues on eden as i was going to look into wt550...............i really love what my Markbass little mark 2 amp puts out 100% i was just looking for another toy, i also did some reading on the Thunderfunk and that really sounded convincing especially how they mentioned it sounds super good with synth pedals or wah....i currently play Rock/Alt but the tone i like to get is a good ability to get a clear cut through funk type sound but while playing Rock.

I sold my WT550 to get the 12.0 Max, but I still have my WT800; so my comparison is between those two, close enough I guess.

The GB's tone is excellent for live gig, cuts through the mix perfectly, tight and lean. Even when ODing the tube pre, it's easy to get an articular tone.

The Eden is sweet and round, more of a studio tone with "enhance" dialed in. Cut some of that fat, and it too can do really well for live gig.

But if I were only allow to own one, it would be the Eden.
That EQ is too nice to pass up, I am kind of loss with out that.
It's like I never get quite to 100% the tone without that EQ.
May be I am just an Eden person.

Plus, the Eden feels more solid and luxurious ...
the knobs turns with the right amount of fiction
and are centered prefect on the front plate
metal edges are rounded
textured chassis/case
no searing LED is a plus too

the GB feels very mundane appliance like in comparison

Right now, the 12.0 Max will replace my B1500 as the power amp to my Navigator.
