gbe 1200 power question

Hey there, I have a GBE 1200 head, and I recently got a Schroeder 210212L that I use with it. Now I also use an Avatar b212 neo making ita 2 ohm load. However, I've noticed that when using just the 210212 the volume virtually stays the same, while I see the clip light come on much less.

Therefore, until I can replace my 212 I'm just using it with the 210212 alone, but my question is, why does this happen?

Is the GBE sensing the inefficiency of the 212, or does it have something to do with running at 2 ohms?

Also, the clip light is almost always on when I use it at about 11 o clock, with a flat eq and an active bongo 4hh, why's that?

You might not hear alot of difference between 1000 and 1200 watts, atleast thats what I was told when I inquired about ordering a GB XB3 810 cab. The Schroeder cab is probably more efficient.

The Schroeder should be at least 3db more efficient if not closer to 6db, due to the extended xmax of the Avatar drivers (although the avatar will be better down low very probably).

When you add a cabinet of the same efficiency, you theoretically gain around 3db (and theoretically 3db of voltage gain or whatever, from reducing the ohms, but with the GBE you don't gain that much I don't think - it's not anywhere close to doubling the wattage). Maybe a little more from coupling, but I don't know how to calculate that.

I don't know how to figure out what the true gain is when you combine cabinets of different sensitivity, but I do know that less than 3db is hard for the human ear to distinguish, so that's probably why. You're getting somewhere less than 3db more volume.

Besides, 2 10's and 2 12's is plenty of cab. Bet it sounds killer.

But not THAT much of a difference. It won't be twice as loud.

When I used to have an Avatar 212L cab(500 W RMS??) and ran it with my Schroeder 410R cab(1400 W RMS) and GBE 1200 I noticed the same thing-I could barely hear the 212 cab(only rated about 500 watts I think)...though when I use my EarCandy 212 BAssBomb Cab(950 W RMS) with my Genz Benz Uber 410(1000 W RMS), both cabs are equally loud with my GBE1200...I never felt the Avatar 212 was a very loud-at least mine was'nt...Not nearly as loud as the Avatar 410s... regarding Bongo- Bongo and Spector preamps will clip the front end of just about any amp. I've even spoken about these two basses with friendly-competitor amp companies.

Be careful about how hot you run the basses on board pre...both volume control and eq wise.
