I hail from Australia (could you have guessed?) and i've been playing bass in a trad/power(ish) metal band for about 8 years.
Ive always been fairly slack with my theory, and never been much of a tech-head. But its time for that to change...better late than dead, right?

Ampeg Pf500 head.
I'm not satisfied with the sound i get from the pf500, but its certainly easy for traveling. Im looking at alternative options but thats a thread for the Amps and cabs section!
