I am surprised there hasn't been a thread like this yet. I'll go first:

1. Instruments (duh)
2. 100 + watt (depending on gig size) bass amp with multiple 8, 10, or 12 inch speakers
3. Some sort of guitar amp/other instrument amp with a kill switch (in case the guitard tries to do a "super awesome solo")
4. Lots of extra mics
5. Portable PA system (for smaller gigs and practice)
6. Graphic EQ
7. Monitors
8. EAR buds
9. Cables up the ***
10. Anything else?

A delay or reverb on your vocals.

Monitor EQ, monitor highpass.

Subs, with highpass, and lowpass for the mains, instant clarity.

Some lighting never goes amiss.

What with digital wireless mixing becoming affordable you can forgo an entire rack of gear. Every **** has an ipad these days.

Not only should you own these items, you should always take them to gigs. In addition I take:

• 5 gallon bucket full of instrument cables, mic cables, mics, batteries, power strips
• PA backup: powered mixer
• Backup Bass head
• Second Bass Guitar. Easier to switch to using it than replacing broken strings.
• Cooler full of beer

flashlight - how can we spend all that time in dark clubs & stages without a flashlight ? I even bring a headlamp in case I need both hands.

power conditioner - I picked up a higher end monster one and plug everything into that thing. amps run smoother with consistent voltages. especially in older venues with sketchy electrical systems

A good powered PA cabinet. Can be used as a monitor, PA, bass amp, guitar amp, keyboard amp, usually have a small mixer on board.
