First off, this thing is amazing. I really haven't been able to put it down this weekend. Even on my little Peavey Microbass practice amp, it sounds good!

I haven't played a real "woody"-sounding bass in a while, and man, it's good to have one again.

5 strings, 24 frets, dual Dingwall (don't know the model) hums, master volume, pickup/coil selector (believe it's neck, series, parallel, bridge), bass boost, treble boost, bluEQube midrange boost/cut switch, active/passive switch.

Favorite so far is in passive, 3rd "click", which I think is parallel, bass boosted, treble at zero, mid-boost off. Haven't jammed it much with my Nav/QSC and Schro/AG gigging rig yet, but on my practice amp this is best so far.

Playability really IS a breeze (as I was told) once you get the hang of it. I like doing a lot of upper-register chording, so that's gonna take some time to practice and adjust. However only about the 17th fret up does it get really skewy. All the way back down to 1 though is nothing.

String to string clarity is insane. Droning the A w/ the D and G strings fretted is a beautiful thing. The tension thing really does make a difference, especially slapping. People say the B is the best part b/c of the 37" scale, but IMO it's having the upper strings, D and G, be so bright and snappy. It sounds just so good.

Plus, it's got a really smooth and flat neck that I like. Not as extreme as the Modulus Quantums, but close. Very, very comfortable. Even after a few hours of sitting watching football, just noodling around my left hand wasn't straining.

The tone is IMO pretty dark. I've heard some of the upper-end Dingwall's classified as "hi-fi", but I don't think this one does. Maybe it's because I haven't even taken it out of passive mode yet, ha! It just sounds so good like this. Even if it was an ABI I'd still take it, knowing you can get these kind of tones.

18V pre, w/ the awesomely ingenious magnet-covered battery compartment. Should be standard on ANY active bass from hereon out!

All in all, I think this is it. I'm already deciding what options I want on my next one that I'll order straight from Sheldon.
You really really owe it to yourself to try out a Dingwall when you can.
I gushed when I got my Q5 fretless, but this is worlds better.

I'm a convert for life!

Enjoy!! :bassist:

Welcome to the club. I find that my ABII-5 sounds good even through my 80' Harvard Reverb II 20 watt SS guitar amp with a stock Fender speaker that only goes down to 75hz, if that. That's clarity built in to the bass.
My 34" 5 string fretless starts farting at med volume levels through this amp.

Congrats.

That's what I mean!!

Even in my Peavey Microbass, this bass sounds awesome, note for note, string for string!

I donno how he does it, but Sheldon is really onto something here... SuperJ next, methinks? ;)

Thats a great looking bass, I've always wanted one but didn't know about the slanted frets. Maybe I'll get to try one soon.

It's a tad intimidating at first, especially if you don't have larger hands a long reach like me, I can see it being more difficult.

However, just messing w/ it for a while really makes it easy. I don't think about it much anymore, and I've barely had it a week!

So if it sounds crystal clear through a guitar amp you know it's gunna sound good through a bass rig. I would really love to play through a tube amp with my ABII-5.

Just the way you slide into a note or pluck with your right hand you can get sort of a pinch harmonic effortlessly.

Must - go - practice - drums ...

Man, just lookin' at it, I miss that bass already ... :bawl:

... but glad as heck you're diggin' it as much as I did. They really are amazing basses, and until you play one, you really don't understand how even the string tension is on those things. Plus the B really is superb, just great clarity and definition ...

If you're this excited through a microbass, I can't wait to hear what you think once you fire it up through the Eden/Schroeder/Accugroove rig - you're never gonna leave the rehearsal studio ...

btw, nice pics ...

Haha yeah thanks and mucho props to Tony for the whole deal. He's a top notch guy, just for everyones FYI!

And sorry bud, I like ya, but there ain't no way this thing is ever leaving me... ;) I thought I loved my ex-Quantum when I got it in- this smokes it in every way possible.

What an instrument. I gotta get on the Dingwall Forum and thank Sheldon personally. It's everything I've been looking for in a bass.

Just amazing. :)

Nice choice.

Those are at the top of my "want to try the most," but as I will not be buying anything for a long time, it's probably best that I don't.

Enjoy!

Yeah, you'd be hurtin' for one for a long time! ;)

Get to play it tonight at church practice live for the first time.

However, I just found out they went to an all in-ear DI setup, which is really gay, cause I wanted to at least hear it, but I guess I'll just bring my pedalboard and Radial JDI and that'll do the trick. :hmm:

Played it tonight, reading chords off the sheet. :)

Different, for sure. I'm finding on the praise music, as it usually always is, is the normal A-E-F#-D or E-A-B stuff, and I'm having to stretch my fingers a little bit to reach those really low tones, like the D, C# and C on the B, G, F# and F on the E, etc.. to make them pitch correctly. But, still, even though the friggin' in-ear setup, I had it on passive, boosted the bass and mids a tad, and it sounded great.
Really big and woody. :)

Now if I can just gig it with my REAL band, I'll be set!!! :D
