Gear That Gets It Done- Your Favorite Workhorse

My 1001RB-II has given me no problems and I love it to pieces. But I've not had it long either. My Laney RB-3 was great for my old band practises though. It's still at the old practise space. I should really get hold of it and bring it back home when I can.

.. Walked into a downtown NYC club last night for a 2-hour set- I was told there was a backline, and I assumed the bass rig would handle my ballzy Jimmy Coppolo AC 6-string prototype in a loud rock setting...
i'd never laid eyes before on an Ampeg Mini-Brute 2x10 stack, so when I saw this diminuitive marvel I immediately thought "uh oh... maybe i have time to head back and grab my MB115..."
i plugged in, and was blown away.
This lil' beast is loud as snot, has tons of aggressive grind if needed, blossoms the low B like an upright, has amazing sustain and crystal clear highs. I didn't even need the PA- the amp sound just rolled through the narrow long club like a cannon. Really impressive.

You mean the Mini VR, right? Great sounding little rig.

I started playing bass through a borrowed Peavey 300 combo. Played through it for 15 years or so. The Peavey stuff usually gets no love, but in the "bang for the buck" department, it rules. Most of us used it somewhere along the line. It never sounded the best, but usually sounded good enough, and then it just wouldn't die. The newer peavey stuff from China isn't as reliable, but the old stuff still won't break.

My work horses have changed over the years, but i still have them. Back in the 70s I started with a Acoustic 370 head with the 301 cabinet, now it sits in my storage(still works). I stop playing for about 15 years, when I came back I rocked a GK 800rb, with a Yorkville xc115, still use it now and then, but my work horse over the last year has been a Eden Wt550 with a epifani PS410. One of these days when I find something that can give me that old school tone, with less weight i'll change to that!!!! Getting old :-)

My Aguilar DB 750, no doubt. Eight years old, hundreds of gigs, all with no PA support, many outdoors. Eight ohms, 2ohms, brutal Florida heat and humidity (and thunderstorms). Bouncing around inside my truck. Having to be heard over god awful loud guitars and keyboards and bad PA mixes all with too much bass on them.

That amp is amazing. I love the thing. It's heavy and simple, and it just works, night after night. Oh, and it sounds pretty good too!

My Yorkville heads are so dependable, it's the one thing I never worry about. I have a XS800H and XS400H, and actually use the 400H more often.

For "workhorse" though, it's my Yorkville "main" XC410 cabinet. I have two of these. One stays in my basement and doesn't have a single mark on it. My other cab is beat up (although you can't tell from the pic), stays out in the garage even in cold Canadian winters and hot humid summers ... always delivers. It's like comfort food to me. It's "home".

FYI, Yorkville bass amps are now marketed under the Traynor name (which is actually the original brand name)!

I'm going to get laughed out of here, but...

my Hartke Kickback 15. I've only had it for two months, but in those two months it made all my other amps obsolete. I took it to every gig and every practice, even if I had an amp there.

Not the greatest sounding amp (a VT bass will fix this), but it makes me able to hear myself in every situation, works great with an upright, and doesn't take up a lot of space. I usually let the PA do the work and use the bass amp only as a stage monitor, but it can even hold it's own against a loud drummer without any PA support.

I have a Henry the 8x8 cab I got REALLY cheap used. It's in great condition though, and it has always performed flawlessly. I've never had volume troubles.

His new best friend is a Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine. I haven't had it long enough, but I know this one is going to be around a loooooooong time too.
