Gear watch: need a new neck for my Grabber

Long story short, I purchased a Grabber in Feb. Look it to a tech, he's just now getting back to me, he was pretty backed up. The truss rod is broken, the adjustment piece at the top is broken off. I've contacted the seller, but it's beyond Ebay and PayPal's protection, so I guess I just need to get this stuff checked out by a pro within a few weeks next time. Sucks.

He said I can get get a new truss rod installed, which he can't do and would be fairly pricey, almost as much as the bass itself, or I can keep an eye out for a used Grabber neck. I could do Warmoth, but I'd prefer a real Gibson. So, if anyone sees a Grabber or G-3 in parts and there's a neck for sale, please let me know. Thanks.

Save a search on ebay called "Gibson Grabber". Check it everyday, and something should pop up. That's probably the only place where you'll find one.

Yeah, I've had an eye out for a while now. Damn unethical sellers, some people are just the scum of the earth.

I've also considered a Warmoth, but I dunno what nut width, or if the "standard" neck profile (the only option) will be anything like the original.

it would be best to just replace the truss rod.. this way you could have carbon rods installed in the neck for stiffness, and retain the original neck/serial..

AFAIK, Warmoth necks will have a Fender neck heel..

How different is a Gibson neck heel?

I think the replacement rod would be the most expensive, and I basically spent all my cash on the bass itself.

The bass player for Darkest Hour has a Grabber with a replacement neck.

Yeah, it appears to be a Fender J-bass. I considered that, but I'd really prefer a V headstock.

You're going to have a hard time finding a decent neck for that bass. Most of the necks I've seen had snapped truss rods. If you try to put a Warmoth neck on it you'll have to expand the neck pocket to accept the neck.

I'd just get the neck repaired, or part the thing out, and save your money for another Grabber.

Check the specs on the Carvin necks... they offer that "V" headstock as an option, I believe.:

I would love to have a Grabber - If it were me I'd balance the cost between having the best tech available repair the truss rod properly vs a Warmoth neck built to the orginal spec and go with the cheaper.

One way or another your gonna drop some cash to make it right....

Save your money - if it sits for 6 months so be it.
