Might be a silly fact but Geddy has two 4 string stingrays on deck for shows. I saw it on the back of their book "Contents under pressure".

Geddy has some stingrays on deck

I'm interested in hearing what his tone will sound like now. I'm sure it'll be close to the jazz sound...his technique is crucial to his signature sound.
Isn't that a bit of a tonal clash? Big FAT 'Ray humbucker, and then Single Coil Jazz pups? Strange!
Saw the picture too, and they (or at least one of them) look like pre-EB basses. I'll probably get flamed for this, but the Wal basses he was playing in the 80's have a sound along these lines. For the record, I've had a SR for a long time and used to have a Wal myself...
Huh, weird. I wonder if that's actually some other band's equipment, seeing as Geddy doesn't play Music Mans nor does he use a pick (seen wedged between the strings of one of the MM's.) It looks like it could have been a shot taken at the Toronto SARS benefit or something.
Same here. 8th row on Geddy's side. Should be able to see everything.
BTW, Geddy uses all kinds of effects to get Ric, Wal, Steinberger and other bass tones from his Fenders. I know he uses the Tech 21 RBI among other stuff.
I'd love it! Personally his Jazz bass tone is my least favorite of all his tones. Too much overdrive and clank. His Wal tone really did it for me, with the old 70's Ric tones at a close

I'd much rather hear him cut through the mix with a more middy tone (which I feel Stingrays have vs. Jazz basses) rather than all the overdrive and clank.
Sorry Fellas but the Stingrays are another bands gear. The picture you are referring to is backstage at the Toronto SARS relief concert from a few years back. Geddy is still using his Fenders.

Kinda annoying... You'd think with fingers (tone) like his he'd much around with his sound more and try different basses. But maybe he's just a loyal type person? I play Yamaha right now and I find myself slightly biased towards them... Perhaps it's simply the same for him? ^^
I love his Wal tone, one of the best bass tones I've ever heard...maybe even the best! I loved his Rickenbacker sound too, but nowhere near as much as the Wal sound. His jazz bass tone is my last favourite, but even then, it still sounds awesome!
I've been saying for the last four or five years that he was due for some kind of change, but it's starting to look like he's just going to play the "pawn shop" Jazz for the rest of his career. I do kind of miss his more experimental phase in the '80s when he seemed a lot more hungry to explore new sounds. He is apparently using a fretless on "Malignant Narcissism" on the new album, but you don't hear much "mwah" on it - he's basically playing it like he would play a fretted bass for the most part.
