Geddy Lee Custom pickups vs. Fender Custom Shop 60's

I bought one of the new American Geddy signatures and took out the pickups for some Seymour Duncans that just aren't doing it justice. I'm thinking of swapping back to the stock pickups which are custom voiced to match Geddy's tone so they have a pretty unique tone. But looking around online, I saw a TON of people raving about the Custom Shop 60's pickups. Has anyone compared these side by side? I want more output and mids.

Right now I have an SJB-2 in the bridge which really barks, but an SJB-3 in the neck which gets too boomy if I try to solo it and blending the pickups sounds off because they're polar opposites tone-wise.

I have the 60's CS. There not special, they just been around a long time so everybody knows about them.
It's a matter of flavor and not quality. Fender released 64 and 74 pure vintage pickups that are just as 'special' but less known and overlooked.
70's style pickups have the 'right' flavor in the mid range for a Geddy bass. IMO

Interesting.

Indeed.

The CS60s are great, but they no longer blow me out of the water. I'm aiming for the '74 pure vintages for my own CIJ Geddy bass.

I think the Custom Shop 60's reign Supreme over most pickups I've had/tried including the Pure Vintage 60's set, which aren't quite as aggressive as the CS 60's and don't have as much output; I think the Pure Vintage 70's MAY be even weaker than the PV 60's according to the specs ...?

What does it look like I have in the pics? Still trying to identify.
thanks,
fnord!
Not sure. I'm not familiar with the beveled pole pieces. The cloth covered wire might just be from the bass wiring job. The wire on the pickups themselves looks the same as my custom wound Tom Brantley pickups that are Geddy Lee spec. Is there anything written on the bottom of the pickups between the bobbin and the mounting foam?

Well my Geddy pups are about to get changed. I have to have both volumes on to cancel the hum, and the D and G srtings are not as loud as the E and A. But its only noticable at louder volumes when performing. When rehersing in my room and its quiet at low volumes i dont notice the lower volume from the strings. I hope swapping pups works
