Crockettnj said:this is a bass site. it has little to do with impressing oneself really.
Geddy has cool phrasing, and is obvisouly talented. However, he would sound quite different tonally if he played through a hoffner or gibson eb-0.
and yet you claim to be able to?
no question a huge amount of ones ones tone comes from your fingers (are your fingers hard, like geddy's, or soft. do you attack the strings aggressively or are you tentative, how you fret, where you pluck strings, etc). No bass player would argue that. however, claiming that the gear you play through is of little importance to obtaining specific tones is ignorant. (not stupid).
try this. cut your mids and treble fully. turn your bass EQ to near full. put some flats on your bass. now play red barchetta with that technique, those FINGERS that only you and Geddy have mastered, and see how it sounds.
I tried not to use too much fancy jargon.
Yeah, jeff schmidt said:agreed. kinda renders this thread moot.
IMO.

What's with all the hostility? Dudes, it's all right. Really it is. Try to chill a bit and things will go better for you.
Geddy Lee is not only a great bassist but he understands how to use technology and equipment to get the sound he wants.
I was born in 1961, was introduced to Rush's music when their first, eponymous, album came out. He sounded like Geddy Lee then, and still sounds like Geddy Lee in 2006-- recorded or live.

Lowtonejoe said:No.
As impossible as it seems his voice would go up 2 octaves due to splinters in his finger.
Joe.
P.S. Just to be clear, Rush is in my top 5 all time favorite bands.
