Genz Benz nostalgia. RIP

Yes another here sorry to see the GB brand go away with all the cool cutting edge products. A friend the other day (guitard) says to me man have you seen the little Rumble Fender amps that are 4 pounds and 500 watts, I said yeah and I have one that's 4 pounds and 900 watts. I'm on the prowl for a Focus cab either the 1x12 or 1x15 and narrowly missed trading for one today but it didn't work out.

:woot::woot::woot::woot:Thats funny Roger......
You can go to Joe's and Johns near bleeker in downtown NY... They are down the block from one another....
One had a picture of Sinatra and the other a photo of Springsteen .... Which Pizza are you gonna get. An Italian mafia guys pie or the Jewish guy from NJ pie? Ehhh...Its NY Pizza . Both are great.
Jeff is you want real good pizza. Take the family to Patsy's ... Its the real deal.... None of that cheep mafia cheese on top..
Its on 125th and 1st Ave... You will take everyone that comes to visit you there until you are 100 years old.. Its that good..

If Patsy's is a holdover from when East Harlem was an Italian neighborhood, then it's DEFINITELY on my to-do list the next time I'm in NYC. Used to play in Latin bands at Fifth and Erie, in Philly, an Italian-turned-Latin 'hood, but there was this little holdover place with the best pizza steaks and espresso ever…and a back room with a pool table, that you could not access unless you were a member of the sponsored soccer team. Loved bopping in there for dinner when alternating sets with some other band (if only a short break, then it was Porky's Point, for a potato stuffed with pork or bacalao).

I now live in Los Angeles, and dearly miss good Northeast pizza. It ain't just New York - have had great pizza in italian neighborhoods in Boston, New Haven, New Jersey and Philly. But so many good places in NYC. For many years I dated a woman who lived on the upper west side, and our place was Vinnie's, at 74th and Columbus. Hole in the wall with bags of flour stacked against the wall, but great pizza. One night a stretch limo pulls up, and Yitzhak Perlman gets out, stands at the counter and devours a slice, then heads back out. Me to Vinny - "Yo, was that Itzhak Perlman?" Vinnie to me: "Yeah, Izzy often stops by for a slice…" Even when I lived in Chelsea, the local hole-in-the-wall greek-owned pizzeria was pretty good.

Sigh…sometimes I REALLY miss NYC. Jazz and Pizza…

Oh…and I miss Genz Benz, big-time! Have used a 3.0-10T for years as my practice and small rehearsal amp - an utter champ. Have a Contour 1-15 at an out-of-state location where I sometimes gig and jam, and it is a great combo. Also have a Shuttlemax 12.2, but not sure about how it fits into my current program.

May all Genz-Benz alumni reap rich rewards in their new endeavors!

I once played with Bowzer at the Hebrew Home For The Aged in Brooklyn. That was a fun gig. Bloomberg was supposed to make a speech, and he shows up right in the middle of a comedy bit and his handlers were telling us to get off the stage and let Bloomberg make his speech right then and there. Jon refused and did the whole bit before he let Bloomberg up. He was pissed...BWAHAHA!

Can't say I have a desire to move there, but I wish you guys all the best there!
Speak truth to power. Or at least don't let it cut in line! Good!

I have a GBE 1200. Haven't been playing it much because a) it's big and, in its rack, kinda heavy and b) it's more than I need. But I've been listening to it recently -- even opened it up and tried some different tubes in it -- and, you know what? It's a damned good amp, and I'm not totally decrepit yet. It's getting some time in the rotation. Might not directly tie-in with the theme of nostalgia, but indirectly, I think. (Get me a protein drink! I'm going to recapture my youth!)

Spoke with Mr. Genzler several years ago when I was getting back into playing and looking for a "grown up" amp. He was courteous, accommodating, and detailed in his answers. He didn't talk down to me, but didn't dumb things down for me, either.

"The only constant in life is change." Have fun with the next phase!

So whats next? A new twist on some old new ideas? Hand wired micro with Jensen caps rhat weight 15 pounds, ultra super ultra lightweight cabs that almost hover. You know the little Focus csbs if they had Neo in them would be lighter than anything out there and make the 15 4 ohms.

And Piza is Pie in the Sky in Atlanta.

Funny....I think you've hit on it. Hover Cabs. Super, extreme, ultra light, adapted with drone-type propulsion, loaded with GPS and able to get themselves to the gig!

I went to buy a Shuttle 3.0 with the 10" cab, and walked out the door with a Streamliner 600 and a Focus 210 cab. My brother liked it so much with his Tayler acoustic guitar, that when I heard that they were going to stop making them, I bought one for him for Christmas. He ended up buying one of the Uber 210's that he uses with his bass, and acoustic.

It's an amazing setup, and I'm sorry to see them go.

Thanks for making fantastic amps!

I took the GBE out last night. It sat atop one of those enormous old Ampegs with the downward-firing 18" (house cab, not mine). Lots of headroom and tight speaker control -- it had that 18" on a short leash! Most controlled low-end I've heard out of that cab.

Luv, luv, luv my genz stuff. Shuttle 9.0 with a neox 2 12 here. I simply haven't looked for another head or cab. So much headroom. So articulate. Imagine if the company was still going, grabbing the 2014 catalog that will never come in the mail. I still see no good that came of that Fender buy. Anyone pumped about the Fender bass amps from 2014 namm? Me either. It just Isn't Genz quality, is it. Trace, SWR, and now Genz. And I know SWR and Trace are still bubbling somewhere. But they don't put out product that gets your blood pumping. Smoke and ashes. Damn shame.
