Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 volume problem

hey guys,

I got a reccurring problem with my Shuttle 9.0.

Basically when I start the gig, it's all good - pleanty of volume. As I get through the gig, I keep having to turn up the master volume to achieve the same volume I was getting before. Basically, it seems as if my amp is getting quieter throughout the gig. If I turn it off and leave it for 30 minutes or so to cool down then turn it back on, it's fine again. It's really werid and annoying, I've heard people with the Hartke LH amps to have this same problem. Could it be the preamp valve or something?

It sure has (one of) the most common symptom of a bad tube (valve). I suggest that you give Scott or Jeff a call on Monday and they will walk you through a couple of simple things to check and will get it taken care of for you. I assume you are located in the U.S. If not, PM me and I'll help you get this sorted out through the proper channels.

I just sat and tried out the amazing GB 9.0 for a few hours tweaking, I can't believe the clarity. The GB 12.0 shuttle max is a little more what I'm looking for.

I am glad to see GB actually posts here! Impressive work gentlemen,can't wait to join GB.

Thanks for the help. I'm in the UK, the amp is relatively new so would the valve really deteriorate that quickly? I often crank the preamp gain to get a nice gritty tone, could this shorten the life of the valve?

A valve is an electro-mechanical device and it's possible that you have one that has become defective. Yes, it is possible at any age.

I've also now noticed that the gain knob makes a loud audiable crackling sound when i turn it, and also if i hit the strings hard, the speaker makes a loud crackling sound. it's not the speaker cos i hooked up headphones and it still made the noise

If you send it in for servicing, the factory will return it to you shipping prepaid. It's going to cost you half of what you think it's going to cost you.

They may also choose to replace the amp with a brand new one if they can't find the problem with your current one.

I have put state27 in touch with his local Genz Benz U.K. service engineer, we should be able to resolve this easily without shipping it "around the world". ;)
