Genz-Benz Streamliner Part 5

Ahhh gotcha....thanks for explaining that.

Per the above, there really is no such thing as a sweet spot, since the impact of the gain control will be very different depending on the signal coming into it.

However, if you run the gain VERY low (way below the level where it still sounds clean) and then really crank the volume control (the second knob), you will get more noise coming out of the amp.
I think the manual states it pretty well... start at noon/noon on the volume and gain. If you want more dirt, turn the gain up and use the volume to keep the amp at approximately the same loudness. If the preamp is not clean enough at noon on the gain (e.g., if you have a very hot input signal), only then should you turn the gain down a touch and then bring the volume up a bit.

Given my very hot output Nordy, combined with my 'average touch' technique, I would think that 'noon/noon' setting would work for quite a few as at least a starting point to hear the amp's clean tone.

Of course, if you push in that gain button, then the formula/ratio changes a bit.

Ken,

Did you ever play through that Streamliner 900 into your (now for sale on consignment) Epifani UL 410 cab? If so, how was the sound? I am thinking of upgrading from my Epi UL310 Series 2 to either a UL212 or a UL410 (probably prefer the 212, since that more fits my style of playing and the music that I like to play, but I like the added power-handling capabilities of the UL410 cab).

Thanks,
Doug (a/k/a "funkyjudge")

PS - Nice clips on Youtube!!!

Hello! Thanks for the Youtube comment. I really enjoy doing those little clips.

I did not have the chance to try that combination. I will say that the 410UL much bigger and smoother and 'polite' than the AE410 in my clips. If you are considering a larger Epi, it would be the 410UL all the way versus the 212UL, which is just a little too mid shy for me all the way around.

If you are looking for a 212, it is VERY hard to beat the AE212. I have not tried that cab with my Streamliner (they are in different cities at this time), but that combination gets great reviews.

I couldn't get a really good shot (and I don't know how you guys get the photos to 'supersize'), but here's a longer shot that shows a couple of the other basses in our arsenal (my wife also plays bass) ... and a close-up of my pedalboard:

If you copy/paste images from a photo website like Snapfish, etc. they come out large. If you upload pics from your computer they come out as smaller thumbnails. There's an explanation somewhere in the main TB pages.

let's see if this works (taken directly from my Snapfish account's latest slide show) -- nope, same as before!
