After reading the tribulations here, bought myself a JAN Philips 5751 and can't believe what a difference it makes! Actually, it's kind of subtle, but it's subtle in a place that makes a huge difference: like everyone says, it tightened up the low end, and gave the sound a general clarity. But what I wasn't quite expecting is the punch it has now. Maybe the punch was always there, somehow occluded by all the roundness of the sound, but the STM900 with a 5751 in V1, at least in the practice room, is a growling punch machine. Something else I wasn't expecting: I can dial in a Stanley Clarke sound! There is still a huge amount of treble and brightness with the 5751. And even though the low end is tightened up, there remains a ton of bottom there. Crank the lows and highs, and cut the mid, and boom: Stanley. The short of this long-winded missive is that the STM900 becomes a massively more useful tool with the 5751 in V1. GB really ought to look into putting in this tube as stock.
Anyway, can't wait to get it onstage.
Thanks guys for the recommendations about this mod. Definitely worthwhile, unless you already love the sound of the STM, in which case you're set.

+1 to this ^^, similar to my experience in how the sound is improved. With my Xsonics 2155CF and PJ5 bass, the STM900 sounds excellent. Highly recommended.

I have a set of NOS tubes in my Streamliner 600. I have a GE 5751 in V1 an Amperex 7025 in V2 and a RCA 7025 in V3. The mids really punch now and it still has plenty of bass. my settings are:

Bass: 10:30
Mids: 2:00 @ 600
Treble 11:00

Running this through the GB NeoX 212T has really opened this amp up. It will punch through any mix and sit right where it needs to.

My Streamliner settings at present;

V1 - NOS Phillips JAN 5751
V2 - Tungsol 12AX7
V3 - Tungsol 12AX7

Bass - 9 o'clock
Mid - 3 0`clock
Treble - 12 noon
Gain button in
Gain - 12 noon
Volume - 12 noon
Master to suit, I use the mid switch like a tone pedal, it is a fantastic tool and is my favourite feature on this amp .

It is very articulate at these settings, I do like to boost the volume as it seems to make the mids come alive .

My Streamliner settings are:

V1 - NOS Phillips JAN 5751
V2&V3 - Stock tubes

Bass - 10:00
Mid - 1:30
Treble - 11:30
Gain button out
Gain - 2:30
Volume - 2:30
Master to suit, I also use the mid switch for voicing but usually at 2.5kHz and use volume to juice the mids a bit.

It's fat and articulate with a bit of growl when I dig in. :bassist:

I am using:
Tung Sol 12AX7/803 in V1
Stock in V2 and V3

I tried a Nos Tung Sol 5771 in V1 and thought it made it sound sort of flat. If the JAN Phillips 5771 in V1, Tung Sol 12AX7 in V2 and V3 is really that good I guess I will spring for the Jan Phillips. As I was writing this post I just ran into this which has me worried a bit.

Lots of guys in this thread in particular running that JAN PHILLIPS 5751. Myself included and I can't recall anyone reporting an issue with it being microphonic or having another issue. Not saying it hasn't happened but I don't recall seeing it reported in this thread.
