Hard to see in the vid but looks like a Deimeter (sorry sp?) preamp and Yamaha power amp? Sounds like a pre and power amp is where you are headed?

Genz Benz vs. Carvin bx500 vs ???

Not sure. I've got a benz shuttle 6 coming and I'll see if it's as transparent as the bx500. If so, I'll be set. Otherwise, I'll try one more bx500.
Well after watching the video I was going to say try a Genz Benz amp. But I see you have one coming. I think you'll like it !

Got the replacement carvin today. Also sounds fantastic and very transparent. The two amps sound amazingly similar. By default with knobs on 12 O'Clock, the benz has a bit more balls but a few eq adjustments on the carvin and they sound virtually identical. The carvin's eq is more versatile than the benz by far. It also has the built in compressor. OTOH, the benz is more flexible with the direct out's placement in the chain.
Overall, the benz has a slightly more tube-amp-like tone. The carvin's tone sounds a bit more like a solid state amp. It still can get tubey but not quite like the benz. I wonder if the benz is running the tube at higher voltages?
Anyway, you can hardly lose with either of them. I'll probably return the carvin for a refund though.

The reliability issue of the BX-500 would be a concern.
Seems like I've heard stories like this a lot regarding this particular model. I was actually considering very strongly buying one a few months ago but I've heard enough stories about this amp's non-reliability that I'm putting it off. Have to wonder if there is some sort of inherent design issue in the BX-500 that needs to be addressed to ensure a reliable product. Too bad, cause it's got everything I want otherwise... but if I can't trust it, I don't want it.
