Genz-Benz vs Genzler

@Jeff K good to know. After I bought my 1st Shuttle 9.0 recently, I too bought a 2nd as a backup...still love/have them both. But I am quite curious about the Magellan 800.
IMHO the Magellan 800 is MORE than the Shuttle. As funny as that sounds I find it to have more girth, more heft, more punch and more low end than the Shuttle 6.2 and I hear others say the same of the Shuttle 9.2. YMMV. Since I have received the Magellan 800 and Streamliner 600 I really don't use the Shuttle all that much anymore. Again YMMV.

I certainly understand there's a lot of water under that bridge, Jeff, and I appreciate your answering within the margins of comfort. Kaman Music was a much different organization in those days when the Kaman family was involved; it's hard to imagine Ovation has no American production any more, but time and tastes move on . . . . . . I can easily envision how GB fit into that company, and how years later it was a completely different fit inside FMIC.

Thanks Again, and wishing you great success (as if that hasn't already started !) in your new venture. The line array arrangement of the tweeters is a very interesting new take on things, and I hear nothing but great things about the heads.

All the Best to You and Yours in this Holiday Season !

the Kaman family had long departed by the time Kaman Music purchased Genz-Benz.

Re hashing old thread I have the newer slanted arrays 15” cabs I recently had a scratchy pot that wasn’t bad at all but I think it’s obviously gotten worse. My speaker cab sounds blown at the moment or full of distortion. I have 2 dif cabs so I plugged in the brand new cab I just got by itself and it wasn’t plugged Into rig before hand and it gave me the muffled distorted sounds To. So I’m pretty sure that rules out the speaker from being blown, which would’ve been a mystery cuz I dotn and haven’t had them loud in so long, but the strange thing is, I just played on the cab this past Friday and it was fine. I go to plug into today and all distorted sounds. Could a bad pot keep the sound distorted? Like permanently until cleaned or fixed? Or is it mostly likely something worse? But I don’t know how it could be worse cause I can’t ever turn it up or I
Should say I don’t need to so blowing it seems very unlikely. Im going to hope it’s all in the pot. I did talk to Jeff genzler awhile back and he mentioned the new genzler use diff pots. I’m sure high end ones, but if someone could ease my thoughts if possible that it’s the pot not the amp head that would be lovely! Or just help telling me *** is going on! lol thank you

Bad tube?
Bad battery in an active bass?
Poor cable connection?
What head are you using - that would be helpful in running down the cause....

Sorry if I didn’t mention this, I did all the above, on the trivial stuff, it’s really weird my jazz bass doesn’t seem to do it or get the sub to sound crackled it sounds decent with my jazz but I notice I had to
Turn the knobs where normally it would be to loud for playing where I’m at, so it would seem that unless I’m just being paranoid I lost some volume somehow, I’m lost as to why the Spector would
Do it and be heard with every note played, but the jazz not?? Idk how bad pots can be an what they can do over time until they are fixed, but that’s the only thing I can come
Up with logically.

It sounds sssooo much like a blown speaker but I KNOW its not a blown speaker. The one cab is brand new and hasn’t even ever really been turned up and it’s going it now to.. it seems to really get bad with the bass notes.. like I what I mean Is if I cut all the bass from my guitar to the amp and all I hear is treble
It plays clean but any bass added it gets fuzzy like distortion

I think the dud pot is probably correct. The Jazz bass doesn’t do it as loudly and pronounced I guess but I noticed that the volume was much louder set then normal. I think it’s going to be a pot issue an simple fix. It was weird that jazz didn’t do it right off the rip but I know just from hearing it the Spector Euro with the dark glass preamps output is much higher, I just simply have only heard “scratchy” pots. I wasn’t sure what happened to pots and the amp when the pot maybe completely fails or has something in its path like dirth. Thankfully I was able to rule out the blown speaker. So I think my panic is just be being a worried parent that’s my baby, I’d be shocked if it’s more then just a simple pot replacement. Which to me is no complaint here is that is the case. The Genzler has been nothin short of amazing since I got it, wouldn’t trade it for the world cab or head

Pot issue gents, just as Mr. Genz implied. Looks like the pot did def cause for some weird sounds an reactions, but none the less, tech was able to get it going back shown it realized why I thought it was more severe cause the sound was just very odd, but all is well and back to thumping!

First volume, the contour was a little dirty, but they had it done in 20min. And to be fair and clear, I don’t want people thinking atleast from my opinion that this is on the comapny or anything. This amp has been outstanding and I’ve had other bassists offer me money for my cab on th spot! Thank you Jeff for your passion and cutting edge ideas! Def more then happy with my purchase

You haven’t come across in any such way. poopie happens. I had a pot go on another top end amp recently. Customer service was exemplary and it’s all good to go to. A percentage of components are going to fail. Even top notch gear.

Just a word to the wise though. Take a peek at the part that was replaced and confirm with the manufacturer that it is to spec….

my amp was fixed by the tech at the local big music chain, where I bought it. The tech will not be working on my gear again. It was the actual designer/engineer who helped me out via correspondence to get me the correct part and replace the crap the local tech did. He put A pot in…. Just not the right one.
It probably would have passed by quite a few folks but I happen to be one of those annoying people who know enough to be dangerous.
