Genz-Benz vs Genzler

First volume, the contour was a little dirty, but they had it done in 20min. And to be fair and clear, I don’t want people thinking at least from my opinion that this is on the comapny or anything. This amp has been outstanding and I’ve had other bassists offer me money for my cab on th spot! Thank you Jeff for your passion and cutting edge ideas! Def more then happy with my purchase

@PhishPhan22 ---Just wanted to let you know that I called the dealer (Music Makers Web) where you took the amp for their tech to check out, so I could get a first hand overview.
Glad you have such a responsive dealer you're working with. Dave and his crew are on it!!
And as we had thought there was just a slight crackling in the first control and just a cycling of the A/B switch a couple of times to get that cleaned out. No defective parts. The tech did use a little De-Oxit on the first control and it sounds like your amp is all good to go!!
That is always a good "maintenance" practice to rotate (full rotation) your Vol and Gain controls from time to time, and cycle switches a few times as well. And while at it, insert a plug into your SEND/RECEIVE jacks on the Effects Loop just for good measure.
That just keeps everything lively, with good contacts.
Hope this helps.

Pot issue gents, just as Mr. Genz implied. Looks like the pot did def cause for some weird sounds an reactions, but none the less, tech was able to get it going back shown it realized why I thought it was more severe cause the sound was just very odd, but all is well and back to thumping!

I have a de-oxidizer spray that I use to wipe down the pots and tube connectors. It does the trick every time. That being said I just got my Magellan 800 and will soon be putting it through some paces!

I have the 2/12T cab with MG 800 head, lately I've been hearing some distortion coming from the cab, not sure if a speaker is loose or tweeter is going bad or what, haven't had a chance to look at it yet, I just set it aside and been using my Genz Benz Uber 4/10. Any feed back on what could possibly be the issue?

Fender / Kaman Music bought out Jeff Genzler many years back. Then in 2013 (I think I remember) shut Genz Benz down. Then sometime in 2015 Jeff started to bring Genzler to life (first real showing was winter NAMM in 2016). And was focusing on Bass amplification.

Since the Genz-Benz purchase by Kaman / Fender there have been a few upgrades in electronics, Class D amp design, and even Neo speaker construction. And Jeff had some improvement ideas all his own. There is a tremendous amount of difference in the Genzler Amps of today versus the old Genz Benz designs. After all, once Kaman and then Fender bought them out, no upgrades or design changes happened and that was over 6 or 7 years ago.

My Genz Benz amps still do fine, but can't compete with the Genzler gear.

THIS story (Fender buying up companies and then shutting them down) seems to be their main mode of operation. Is this some thing they do to get rid of the competition? Sure they did come out with some Sunn products but for like a year or two before they killed Sunn.

God help us if Fender winds up buying Ampeg.....

I don't think that was the intention at all. Don't forget that we were deep into the "great recession", combined with Fender's failed IPO, both of which came at a terrible time for us (not just Genz Benz, but quite a few other brands as well).

Hi TB, I promise I tried to find the answer to this question for myself, and I truly could not do it haha.

I have owned a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0-12T for many years, I've played probably 2,000+ gigs on it, and I absolutely LOVE it! Probably my favorite piece of gear I've ever owned. So many great designs.

I'm considering getting a new combo and letting my beloved Shuttle be my backup, and of course my main candidates for a new amp are the Genzler Magellan 350 MG12T-V Combo and the Genzler Magellan 350-BA10 Combo.

My question is this. My Shuttle combo has a power rating of 350 watts at 8 ohms, whereas the new Magellan combos are rated at 175 watts at 8 ohms. Would the Magellan combos have lower perceived loudness than my Shuttle?

Apologies if this question makes no sense. Thanks!

Cambridge shout out from Maryland! I owned the 6.0/12 Combo. Perfectly good functioning unit that I realized would be good in someone else’s arsenal when I picked up the 350/BA10. Used that on many gigs with no issue in loudness from the previous unit. Then I got a MG12T-V cab. The 350/12 is the main gigging platform - smooth as silk. The 10-2 cab stays at home and I can bring the head back and forth if I need to practice between gigs. The 350 does SO many things so well. Now that I have the re/Q there is really no tonal range that is out of reach. So, guess what I am saying is - buy the Magellan with confidence. It IS a tough choice with the 10-2 and 12T and then you also have the NuClassic.
So, think of the musical setting 10 v 12. Then the space limitations (if any) the 10 likely wins by a hair. Portability is equal. As the entire thread says - you cannot go wrong with any Genzler gear! Good Luck!

Thanks, I'm leaning towards the 350/12! I appreciate the input.

(snippity do-dah) ...

All of this was a great experience in life and has certainly laid the ground work for what we offer as GENZLER AMPLIFICATION.
And in my mind it is the NEXT GENERATION.
And it CONTINUES.....

I hope this sheds a little "respectful" light for the TB community on this subject.

Spoken as a gentleman. Thanks for some insight there Jeff.

Yes, totally agree with this. I used the GB 6.0/12 combo for many gigs, and more recently have used the Genzler 350/10-2 and 350/12TV. I ultimately chose the 350/12TV because it was a bit louder and a bit deeper (the 10-2 is no slouch and is very punchy and accurate). Either of the Genzler combos would be excellent replacements for the 6.0/12.

Thanks all! I think I am gonna take the plunge on the 350/12TV.
