Genz vs GK

OK here's the dilemma. I've just bought a GK Neo 212 cab, which I love. I've tried a few different heads through it including a GK2001RB and various Markbass amps. I loved the warmth and fat bottom on the Markbass heads but the sound didnt really work for me overall. I prefer a more hi-fi tone like on the GK. Only problem is I don't really like the bottom end on the GK rigs. Sounds a bit thin and compressed to me.

From doing some research, it seems like the Genz Benz heads offer the GK punchiness and brightness (I definitely got some awesome growl from the Warwick and GK rig) with a fatter warmer bottom end, not to mention valve preamp and some great features.

So... I was considering mating a Genz Benz GBE750 with the GK 212 cab giving me 400 watts at 8 ohms (should be loud enough for me).

Any thoughts on this? Maybe I should go through all the effort of returning the GK cab and get a Genz benz 212 cab as well?

The pic below shows my friends 2001 running though my cab with my Warwick Corvette $$ Zebrano in front.

I think the Genz heads match best with the Genz cabs (they were made for each other). I don't get the GK hi-fi statement though. I never thought of GK as being hi-fi. :hmm:

I guess hi-fi might be the wrong word for GKs characterful sound. Maybe bright and punchy is a better way to describe it. I like the sounds, it's just lacking some bottom end warmth.

they are totaly different sounds. Try them and see what you like best. I love the GB Shuttles

How would you describe the difference? It's nigh on in impossible to try the GBE750 in the UK. I think I heard somewhere there were 10 in the whole country. Ive heard some people say GB sounds like GK on steroids. From what Ive heard they definitely have some punch and some balls to them.

Are you running with the 5string filter on or off?

I don't find my 700rbII to be lacking at all on the low end, however, it is a very tight bottom. I also think the character of the low end changes as you mess with the gain structure. The bottom end gets a bit "bloomier" as you come up on the boost and woofer, IMHO.

Coincidentally, I have literally just been messing with my friends other head this afternoon, a 700rb (not the II) through the GK 212 cab. It sounded fatter and warmer to my ears than the 2001RB. It's probably alot to do with the fact that the 700 is a much better match to the cab and my kind of volume requirements (and it sounded louder than the 225 watts I believe it was pumping out) I also messed with the voicing filter and it seemed to make a bit of difference too. A 700RB-II is now a possibility for me.

well to me the GB is more warm and organic. I really like that in a bass tone. The GK (to my ears anyway) seams more steril across the board. It is a hard sound to explain. I am not saying it is bad because it isn't...it just isn't my tone

I can see what you mean. The sound is almost what I want, just not quite warm and as you put it "organic" sounding as I'd like.
