Agreed. I just learned of this pedal from a post Andy made in the Agedhorse Appreciation thread, went to the Genzler site and liked what I heard. Order placed...
I have one on the way to replace my Big Muff that I had set really low as an always on. I think the 4OTF will be a better solution.
I did my first gig with one of these yesterday - I don't have a need for anything that sounds "distorted" - just a bit of push or "amp straining" kinds of sounds. I do church gigs, and often our opening number is a bit more lively and driven sounding than the others - that was the case yesterday, and the 4 on the floor gave me just what I wanted - it's not "distorted" sounding, it's not something you can completely do with an eq - it's just.....the darn closest thing to the sound in my head. Anyway, it worked well for what I needed.
Next weekend, I have a gig where the vibe is more raucous - I'm expecting to use it more at that gig. I'll drop a note about how it worked there a week or so from now.

This is my current setup, but I want to add a tuner and my simplifier bass station, but the board is too small, I have a bigger board but that's my digital source audio board..

Happily trending in my own peculiar direction.
This arrived today...just in time for our gig Friday! I will not have time to explore it deeply, but the first few minutes of knob turning have already produced some useable and good (to my ears) sounds! I even managed to find a spot for it on my pedalboard with minimal fuss:
After three gigs and about as many rehearsals I am growing to really like what the 4OTF is adding. I don't have any sound clips but here's how I've been using it. I run DI from a Mesa Subway WD800 with a bit of EQ from the preamp (bump on bass and low mid). 85% of the time the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe (VD) is on (only off for songs that need clean bass) and for about a third of our typical blues-based rock set list the 4OTF is on (settings pretty close to where they are in post #28. So far I haven't used the 4OTF without the VD, but I may do that once I get more familiar with it. At the last rehearsal I used the 4OTF more liberally and asked my bandmates whether the hotter sound was OK with them and the response was unanimous that it sounded great.

Glad you're liking it so far! Reading your NPD post, my experience has been similar to yours re: trying several other OD pedals and not finding a keeper. The 4OTF is a keeper!
The 4OTF is just killing it for me. Our band plays a lot of metal and I’ve been trying to find the right OD for some of our covers. This thing has it in spades! Breathes new life into our old tunes.
I’m digging the tools that it gives you to dial in just the right type and amount of drive. Which channel, how much drive you give it, how much you mix in. It’s quite sensitive to input and touch. I had to raise my action so I could dig in a little more and I just love the way it responds to dynamics. It’s a great tool to add the perfect amount of hair to my tone.

First time using the 4OTF at band practice tonight. We auditioned a new guitarist, so 2 guitars, electronic drums, singer, everyone but me through the board. We play 80s through more recent metal. I played my Aerodyne with these settings through my Mesa WD 800 (gain about 10 o’clock master at noon) into a big old Ampeg 215. It killed. Big and ballsy. It’s also the first time I’ve had to wear earplugs with this band.
I was surprised how much I cranked it:
4th gear, and it sounded great with good note definition with my clean signal dialed out. Perfect in the mix.

I received mine and confess I'm a little surprised. Even at the high gain setting, it doesn't seem to have a ton of gain. I'm using medium-output instruments (EG, a Bill Lawrence P pickup), and while it's great for subtle, I guess I was expected 4th gear to really roar based on the demos, and it's not doing that. Do I have a faulty pedal or am I spoiled for high gain by my Dr Scientist The Elements and Idiot Box Blower Box?

How much overdrive depends in part on the output level of the bass. It's more of an overdrive pedal, not really a high gain, heavy distortion pedal (but can get somewhat into that territory, as shown on some of the demos).
There are so many "distortion" boxes out there, boxes that focus on the high gain tones, that we wanted to do something a little bit different, more vintage amp oriented, based on work that we started almost 25 years ago. We have always been more about maintaining touch sensitivity, feel and tone, even under overdriven conditions.
This doesn't mean that we are ignoring the heavier distortion crowd, just that we wanted to explore this area first as it goes back to our collective music roots more directly. If there's enough interest, we have the creative freedom with this pedal project to go anywhere we might want to explore.
For those of you interested in higher gain, more distortion oriented tones, can you describe what your ideal pedal and tones might be, and your feature set priorities? Maybe give some examples of your favorite pedals?
